Nothing screams post-holiday madness like all-spaces-full mall parking lots, big box stores so crowded they might as well be sardine cans and airport terminals teeming with more activity than a colony of ant hills.

Oh, and let’s not forget holiday hockey tournaments. Lots and lots of ’em coming to an arena near you. The window between Christmas and New Year’s is filled with 17 tournaments ranging from as few teams as three to as many as 12.

Two of them — the Gold and Silver divisions of the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic — began on Monday at the Super Rink in Blaine. Most of the rest of them commence on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Most of the week’s best matchups, naturally, come from holiday tourney matchups — most of which are predetermined.

(5-0-0) faces Noah Urness (23 points) and Roseau (5-4-0) on Thursday in the final round of the Roseau Holiday Classic. … Fargo South/Shanley, N.D. (7-1-0), ranked No. 2 in the latest North Dakota state coaches poll, meets Rochester Mayo (4-2-1) on Thursday in a second-round game in the Rochester Kiwanis Hockey Festival.
