Hockey Night: Cretin-Derham Hall halts long losing skid against St. Thomas Academy

Dec. 22: Jake Fisher scores twice; Raiders beat Cadets for the first time since 2014

Cretin-Derham Hall 4, St. Thomas Academy 2

ST. PAUL - Senior forward Jake Fisher scored twice as Cretin-Derham Hall snapped a nine-game losing skid to arch rival St. Thomas Academy, topping the previously unbeaten Cadets 4-2 on Thursday night at Highland Arena.

The No. 12-2A Raiders (7-2-0) hadn't defeated No. 7-2A St. Thomas Academy (7-1-0) since Jan. 28, 2014.

The game was one of just seven out of 45 statewide that dodged weather-related postponements.

Max Anderson added a pair of assists for the Raiders, who got a 35-save performance from Leo Miller.

Sean Burns and Jordan Tachney scored for St. Thomas Academy. The Cadets' loss leaves seven teams statewide that remain unbeaten.

Roseau 5, Bemidji 2

ROSEAU - Noah Urness scored three goals, including two in span of 16 seconds late in the second period, to help propel Roseau past Section 8AA rival Bemidji 5-2 at Roseau Memorial Arena.

Urness' goals late in the the second gave Roseau (5-4-0) a 4-1 lead heading into the third. Bemidji's Nick Johnson scored 1:09 into the third to make it 4-2.

Urness scored his third of the game and team-best 13th of the season late in regulation.

Bemidji dropped to (3-6-0) with the loss.

Hibbing/Chisholm 5, Proctor 2

HIBBING - Senior forward Peyton Taylor scored twice late in the third period and Hibbing/Chisholm pulled away for a 5-2 victory over Section 7A foe Proctor at the Hibbing Memorial Building.

Drew Anderson and Keeghan Fink scored first-period goals to give No. 7-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (6-3-1) a two-goal lead heading into the second.

Anthony Launderville scored twice for Proctor (2-6-0) in the second to tie it at 2-2 heading into the third, when Hibbing/Chisholm's Logan Gietzen broke the tie with a goal 6:54 into the session.

Grand Rapids 6, Duluth Denfeld 0

GRAND RAPIDS - Kyler Miller and Blayne Mortenson each scored twice to lead Grand Rapids past Duluth Denfeld 6-0 at the IRA Civic Center.

No. 17-2A Grand Rapids (8-3-0) scored four unanswered goals in the second period to pull away from No. 16-1A Denfeld (4-4-1).

Mortenson and Miller each have five goals to lead the Thunderhawks, who got a 15-save shutout from Myles Gunderson.

Duluth East 7, Duluth Marshall 0

DULUTH - Thomas Gunderson and Grant Winkler each scored twice and Cole Christian had four assists as Duluth East cruised past Duluth Marshall 7-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena.

Winkler opened the scoring 1:52 into the first period and scored again on a shot through traffic from the point with 1.7 seconds left in the opening period to put the Greyhounds (5-5-0) ahead 4-0.

Duluth East's Drew Raukar made 15 saves for the shutout. Sam Pollard stopped 48 shots for Duluth Marshall (1-8-0).

Grand Forks Red River (N.D.) 7, East Grand Forks 1

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Luc Bydal scored twice and had an assist Grant Gardner had a goal and three assists to lead Grand Forks Red River past East Grand Forks 7-1 in a Gambucci Cup series game at Eagles Arena.

Junior forward Brock Schultz scored his fifth goal of the season midway through the second period to pull No. 5-1A East Grand Forks (5-4-0) to within 2-1.

Grand Forks Red River (5-1-0),  No. 1 in the North Dakota High School Hockey Coaches Poll, scored the the final five goals, including four in the third period.

Grand Forks Red River, Grand Forks Central and East Grand Forks compete for the Gambucci Cup, which goes to the team that accumulates the most points in the head-to-head matchups.
