Hockey Night: Andover stages another dramatic comeback

Dec. 17: Huskies rally to tie unbeaten Wayzata; St. Thomas Academy beats Holy Family in OT to improve to 7-0

Wayzata 3, Andover 3 (OT)

ANDOVER - Andover's Landon Stringfellow scored with 36 seconds left in regulation to force overtime as the Huskies and Wayzata skated to a 3-3 tie on Saturday at Andover Community Center.

Stringellow, stationed just outside the crease, swatted home a rebound of Cayden Casey's shot from the point. Gavyn Thoreson won the face-off in the Wayzata end to initiate the play.

No. 5-2A Andover (4-3-1) took the early lead when Cooper Conway scored on the power play 1:46 into the contest.  Jibber Kohl answered with a power-play goal for No. 2-2A Wayzata (5-1-0).

Stringfellow scored on the power play with 1:45 left in the second for the Huskies. Wayzata's Jake Mattson answered with a power-play goal with 8 seconds left in the period.

Cade De St. Hubert gave Wayzata a 3-2 lead with 11:37 left to set the stage for Stringfellow's game-tying goal.

Late comebacks are nothing new for Andover. The Huskies scored a pair of late goals as it rallied to beat Champlin Park 3-2 in overtime on Thursday.

St. Thomas Academy 4, Holy Family 3 (OT)

VICTORIA - Tommy Cronin's goal with 4:22 left in overtime gave St. Thomas Academy the 4-3 win over Holy Family in a game between ranked teams at Victoria Recreation Center.

No. 20-2A Holy Family (5-2-0) took a 1-0 lead on Thomas Laaksonen's power-play goal in the first. Cronin tied it with 4:03 left in the second and then Will Dosan gave the Cadets a 2-1 lead with 2:19 left heading into the second intermission.

Holy Family's Ethan Hall evened the score with 12:27 remaining. One minute later, No. 10-2A St. Thomas Academy (7-0-0) regained the lead on Max Candon's goal. Mason Grinnell then tied it with 9:51 left in regulation.

Tyler Magoni stopped 20 shots for the Cadets while Bennett Reinhard made 29 saves for Holy Family.

Cronin, a Colgate commit and leading Mr. Hockey candidate, has 14 goals this season. No other Cadet has more than four.

Lakeville South 3, Eastview 2

LAKEVILLE - Sophomore forward Will Kortan's goal 2:14 into the third period held up as the winner as Lakeville South outlasted South Suburban Conference rival Eastview 3-2 at Hasse Arena.

Ashton Dahms and Tyler Lafferty scored second-period goals for No. 5-2A Lakeville South (4-1-0).

No. 16-2A Eastview (6-2-0) tied it at 1-1 on Billy Downs' goal 1:26 in the the second period.

The game featured two of the state's top senior goaltenders in Eastview's Jay Svaren (22 saves) and Lakeville South's Jack Hochsprung (21 saves).

East Grand Forks 3, Alexandria 2

ALEXANDRIA - East Grand Forks built a 3-0 lead after two periods and hung on to defeat Alexandria 3-2 at the Runestone Community Center.

No. 5-1A East Grand Forks (5-2-0) got goals from Cam Kofstad, Gage Seydel and Jace Van Eps to take the 3-0 lead.

No. 15-1A Alexandria (0-4-0) started its comeback when Tyler Kludgt scored with 4:21 left. The Cardinals got within a goal when Nick Peterson scored during a 6-on-3 advantage with 7 seconds remaining.

Delano 3, Hutchinson 1

DELANO - Delano used two third-period goals to record a 3-1 win over Hutchinson in a matchup of Section 2A foes at Delano Area Sports Arena.

No. 13-1A Delano (2-3-0) built a 3-0 lead after a second-period goal by Bryce Peterson and third-period goals from Patrick Kruse and Aiden Leaver.

No. 14-1A Hutchinson (4-2-0) was stopped on its first power-play opportunity in the third but converted on its second when A.J. Mallak scored with 7:38 remaining.

La Crescent-Hokah 3, Waseca 2 (OT)

WASECA - Wyatt Farrell's power-play goal 1:23 into overtime led La Crescent-Hokah to a 3-2 overtime win over Waseca at the Waseca Community Arena.

La Crescent-Hokah (7-2-0) forced overtime with Cooper Carlson's power-play goal midway in the third.

Waseca led 1-0 after Griffen Krautkramer's second-period goal. Farrell scored shorthanded 19 seconds into the third period to even the score.

Waseca (4-3-0) took a 2-1 lead on a power-play goal from Lucas Groll.

Farrell's OT goal was his state-leading 21st of the season and fifth game-winner.

Edina 5, Eden Prairie 1

EDINA - Jackson Nevers scored twice as Edina beat Eden Prairie 5-1 in the de facto championship game of the Edina Holiday Classic at Braemar Arena.

Mason West and John Halverson each had a goal and an assist for the No. 13-2A Hornets (3-3-0), who won their third game in as many days.

Ryan Koering scored for No. 18-2A Eden Prairie (3-3-0), which had won its first two games of the three-day round robin tournament.

Cambridge-Isanti 7, Princeton 4

PRINCETON - Sean Brown's goal midway through the third period proved to be the game winner as Cambridge-Isanti rallied for a 7-4 victory over Princeton with four straight third-period goals at Princeton Ice Arena.

Jacob Patnode scored 3:16 into the third period to put Princeton (1-4-0) ahead 4-3. Wyatt Nutt answered for the Bluejackets (3-2-0) just 1:16 later.

Brown scored 6:26 into the third and Cambridge-Isanti added two empty net goals in the closing minutes.

Moose Lake 4, North Shore 3 (OT)

MOOSE LAKE - Ryden Anderson scored with 2:13 left in overtime as Moose Lake beat North Shore 4-3 at Riverside Arena.

North Shore's Jake Stadler scored his second goal of the game with 5:49 remaining to tie it at 3-3.

Sam Knezevich scored twice for Moose Lake (3-3-0). 

The Rebels outshot the Storm (1-3-1) 9-0 in the overtime period.
