Hockey Night: Conway's OT goal completes Andover's comeback

Dec. 15: Huskies rally to beat Champlin Park; Eastview outscores White Bear Lake; Unbeaten Orono slips past Minneapolis

Andover 3, Champlin Park 2 (OT)

CHAMPLIN - Senior forward Cooper Conway swatted the rebound of his initial shot into the net 2:09 into overtime as defending state Class 2A champion Andover rallied to beat Champlin Park 3-2 on Thursday at the Champlin Ice Forum.

No. 5-2A Andover (4-3-0) trailed 2-0 with 4:25 remaining in the third when Gavyn Thoreson scored to spark the comeback. Huskies defenseman Tristen May-Robinson tied it at 2-2 with 1:57 remaining in regulation.

In overtime, Conway, a Colorado College commit, charged the net after the puck came to him off a face off. Champlin Park's Coen Neu made the save on Conway's first shot but couldn't stop the second-try chance 

Jordan Ronn and Matthew Peterson scored for Champlin Park (4-2-0) in the second period as the Rebels built their 2-0 lead.

Cretin-Derham Hall 6, Benilde-St. Margaret's 3

ST. LOUIS PARK - Junior forward Chuck Owens scored twice as Cretin-Derham Hall built a four-goal lead early in the third period then held on to beat Benilde-St. Margaret's 6-3 at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

Max Anderson opened the scoring for No. 14-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (4-2-0) with the lone goal of the first period. Owens and Jake Fisher added second-period goals and Owens scored again 1:17 into the third to give the Raiders their four-goal cushion.

Ryan Baird and Peter Giertsen scored back-to-back goals for No. 8-2A Benilde-St. Margartet's (1-3-0), but the Red Knights couldn't get closer than within two goals.

Freshman Nate Chorlton scored his fifth goal of the season for the Raiders. Senior Wes Berg, a 30-goal scorer for Gentry Academy last season, scored his first goal as a Red Knight.

Eastview 6, White Bear Lake 4

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Senior forward Tanner Kronberg scored twice and had an assist and senior defenseman Logan Opgrand had a goal and three assists to lead Eastview to a 6-4 victory over White Bear Lake at TCO Sports Garden.

No. 16-2A Eastview (5-1-0) never trailed but never led by more than two until Jordan Brothers' power play goal with 6:14 remaining put the Lightning ahead 6-3.

Charlie Olsen scored twice and Joe Belisle had three assists for No. 11-2A White Bear Lake (4-1-0). The Bears' Nolan Roed scored with 23 seconds left.

Chanhassen 6, Gentry Academy 1

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Tyler Smith scored twice and had an assist and Owen Buesgens had a goal and two assists as Chanhassen, a freshly minted top-10 Class 2A team, cruised past Gentry Academy 6-1 at TCO Sports Garden.

No. 7-2A Chanhassen (5-1-0), ranked in Legacy Hockey's top 10 for the first time, led 3-0 through two periods.

Gentry Academy (3-2-0) got a goal from Reese Shaw early in the third to make it 3-1, but the Storm resumed their scoring spree with three unanswered goals, one on the power play and two while shorthanded.

Chanhassen finished with three shorthanded goals.

Orono 3, Minneapolis 2

MINNEAPOLIS - Caden Bickett and Easton Sankey scored third-period goals for Orono as it rallied to beat Minneapolis 3-2 in a matchup of Section 2A rivals at Parade Ice Garden.

Joel Hanson and Will Anderson scored in the second period as Minneapolis (1-5-0), the defending Section 2A champion, took a 2-1 lead into the third.

Bickett scored 37 seconds into the third to tie it at 2-2, and Sankey's goal with 4:04 left proved to be the winner as No. 4-1A Orono improved to 7-0-0.

Minnetonka 6, Prior Lake 1

MINNETONKA - Six players scored goals for Minnetonka as it cruised past Prior Lake 6-1 at the Pagel Activity Center.

Robby House, Gavin Garry and Ashton Shultz scored in a span of 6:17 to close the second period as No. 3-2A Minnetonka (5-1-0) grabbed a 3-1 lead.

Hagen Burrows, Max Krebsbach and Javon Moore scored in the third for the Skippers.

Prior Lake (3-2-0) took a 1-0 lead nine seconds into the second period on a goal by Levi Eiter.

Rogers 5, Blaine 1

ROGERS - Brandon Swanson and Carson Melquist scored first-period goals as unbeaten Rogers rolled past winless Blaine 5-1 at the Rogers Ice Arena.

Defenseman Jackson Smithknecht and forward Parker Deschene, both sophomores, scored in the second period as No. 1-2A Rogers (6-0-0) padded its lead.

Ryan Salo scored the lone goal for Blaine (0-5-0).

Edina 4, St. Louis Park 1

EDINA - Junior forward Jackson Nevers scored twice and freshman Mason West added two assists as Edina beat St. Louis Park, its hastily arranged opponent, 4-1 at Braemar Ice Arena in a matchup broadcast on regional television.

The Hornets were originally scheduled to play Grand Rapids, but the Thunderhawks were unable to make the trip south in time because of inclement weather causing poor road conditions. 

St. Louis Park agreed to fill in, and the teams moved their regular-season meeting, originally scheduled for Jan. 5, to Thursday.

Simley 5, Tartan 4

INVER GROVE HEIGHTS - Joey Stanton's goal with 24 seconds remaining lifted Simley to a 5-4 victory over Tartan at Veterans Memorial Community Center.

Junior defenseman Zach Hilsgen scored three goals for Simley (3-4-0), including two on power plays. 

Colin Kammerer scored twice for Tartan (0-6-0).
