Hockey Night: South prevails in Battle of Lakeville

Dec. 13: Tate Pritchard's hat trick leads Cougars past Panthers; Orono rolls past Northfield; Owatonna, Kittson Central, Rochester Lourdes notch OT wins

Lakeville South 4, Lakeville North 2

LAKEVILLE - Senior Tate Pritchard scored three goals to lead Lakeville South to a 4-2 victory over intracity and Section 1AA rival Lakeville North on Tuesday at Ames Arena.

Lakeville North (3-2-0) pulled to within 3-2 with 2 minutes left in regulation, but Pritchard helped clinch the win by scoring into an empty net in the closing minute. The goals were his first of the season.

John Novak scored early in the second to give No. 4-2A South (3-1-0) a 3-1 lead.  Pritchard scored the first two goals for the Cougars, who outshot the Panthers 32-22.

Orono 3, Northfield 1

LONG LAKE - Junior forward Cayden Effertz scored twice in the  second period to lead unbeaten Orono past Northfield 3-1 at Orono Ice Arena.

The No. 4-1A Spartans (5-0-0) led 1-0 after the first on a goal by Bradley Walker. 

Kamden Kaiser pulled the No. 7-1A Raiders to within 3-1 with a goal 12 second into the third period.

Orono's Johnny DeLong made 23 saves to earn the victory. Northfield's Keaton Walock stopped 28 shots.

Owatonna 4, Albert Lea 3 (OT)

OWATONNA - Joseph Webster scored with 4:53 left in overtime to give Owatonna a 4-3 win over Albert Lea at Four Seasons Centre.

Webster also recorded a goal in the first period for the Huskies (3-0-0).

Albert Lea (2-3-0) forced overtime when Jack Ladlie scored midway through the third period.

Mark Spurgeon recorded a goal in the second period and two assists for Owatonna.

Kittson Central 8, Red Lake Falls 7 (OT)

RED LAKE FALLS - Tyler Hennen tied the game with 1:17 left in the third and then scored with 3:24 left in overtime to lead Kittson Central to an 8-7 overtime win over Red Lake Falls at Cardin-Hunt Arena.

Henna's game-winning goal completed his hat trick and a six-point night.

Kittson Central led 2-1 after the first period and had a 6-4 lead after two periods. Evan Girdler scored twice in the third to tie the contest before Blake Breiland gave the Eagles a 7-6 lead with 1:27 remaining.

However, Hennen scored 10 seconds later to force overtime.

Hayden Olsonawski added two goals and an assist for Kittson Central (4-3-0).

Ben Ness recorded two goals and Gavin Girdler added a goal and four assists for the Eagles (2-2-0).

Duluth Denfeld 5, Rock Ridge 2

DULUTH - Andrew Larson scored four times in the third period as Duluth Denfeld defeated Rock Ridge 5-2 at Heritage Sports Center.

With the Hunters (3-2-1) holding a 1-0 lead after two periods, Larson netted his first goal 1:17 into the third. Rock Ridge (2-3-0) tied the game with goals by Isaac Flatley and Easton Walters in the next 2:49.

Larson gave the Hunters a 3-2 lead by scoring with 6:17 left. His last two goals came 22 seconds apart, the last one coming with 1:21 remaining.

Kaden Postal added three assists for Denfeld.

Rochester Lourdes 1, Winona 0 (OT)

WINONA - Sophomore Jack Roe scored 41 seconds into overtime and Xander Carter-Kleven made 28 saves as Rochester Lourdes outlasted Winona 1-0 at Bud King Ice Arena.

The goal was the third of the season - and third in three games - for Roe, who had three goals last season.

The shutout was the first of the season for Kleven, a junior who had seven last season for the Eagles (2-3-0).

Winona junior Michael Dubek made 34 saves as the Winhawks (0-4-0) lost in overtime for the third time this season.

Spring Lake Park 5, Osseo 4

BLAINE - Teddy Wackman and Drew Lindquist each scored two goals as Spring Lake Park hung on to defeat Osseo 5-4 at Fogerty Arena.

Osseo led 2-1 in the third before Lindquist scored back-to-back goals to give the Panthers (2-2-1) a 3-2 lead. Following a goal by St. Louis Park's Ian Roell, Wackman scored on an assist by Lindquist for a 5-2 lead with 4:45 remaining.

Osseo (2-1-0) scored the next two goals in a span of just more than a minute but could not record a tying goal.
