Hockey Night: Rohloff's OT blast boosts Grand Rapids

Dec. 9: Thunderhawks rally to top Roseau, improve to 6-0; Orono outlasts New Prague in overtime

Grand Rapids 3, Roseau 2 (OT)

GRAND RAPIDS - Sophomore defenseman Luka Rohloff's shot from the left point found its way into the net 1:49 into overtime as Grand Rapids beat Roseau 3-2 on Friday at the IRA Civic Center.

Junior Jacob Garski won a face-off in the Roseau end and sent the puck back to Rohloff, whose low shot found its way through a maze of bodies.

The overtime finish was one of five in a 17-game schedule on Friday night.

The victory kept No. 15-1A Grand Rapids unbeaten as the Thunderhawks improved to 6-0-0, the state's only six-win team.

Roseau, which led 2-1 after the second period after getting goals from Preston Lunbohm and Noah Urness, dropped to 3-2-0.

Orono 4, New Prague 3

NEW PRAGUE - Cayden Effertz scored 1:35 into overtime to give Orono a comeback win over New Prague in a battle of ranked unbeaten teams at the New Prague Community Center

No. 4-1A Orono (4-0-0) trailed 2-0 after the first period but eventually held a 3-2 lead until New Prague's John Schmidt scored on the power play with 5:01 to play in regulation.

No. 14-1A New Prague (2-1-0) took the 2-0 lead on goals by Eric Berg and Connor Williams in the first.

The Spartans' comeback started with a second-period goal by Tommy Lewin before Joey Greenagel tied the contest 2:15 into the third. Effertz then scored on the power play with 11:33 to play to give Orono the lead.

Detroit Lakes 5, Thief River Falls 5 (OT)

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Thief River Falls' Braydin Lund scored with 3:30 left in regulation to force overtime as the Prowlers and Detroit Lakes played to a 5-5 tie at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Paul Anderson started Thief River Falls' comeback with a goal at 5:02 before Lund tied the game. The Prowlers outshot Detroit Lakes 10-6 in overtime.

No. 10-1A Thief River Falls (2-2-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tucker Howe before Detroit Lakes scored three-straight goals. Tommy Suckert scored on the power play in the first period for No. 11-1A Detroit Lakes (4-1-1).

Coley Delaney and Easton Wahl gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead before Max Arlt scored with 1:02 left in the second. The Prowlers then tied the game with Jace Erickson's goal only to see Detroit Lakes take a 5-3 lead on goals by Deraney and Aiden Kennedy.

Duluth East 8, Coon Rapids 3

DULUTH - Ian Christian and Cole Christian each scored two goals while Grant Winkler added four points as Duluth East defeated Coon Rapids 8-3 at the Heritage Sports Center.

Ian Christian opened the scoring for Duluth East (3-4-0), scoring 67 into the opening period. Hunter Cooke gave the Greyhounds a 2-0 lead, but Coon Rapids' Eli Boden and Tyler Barsness tied the contest at 2-2. Cole Christian give Duluth East a 3-2 lead 22 seconds after Barness' goal.

Thomas Gunderson's goal gave the Greyhounds a 4-2 lead but Boden scored to make it 4-3 and keep the hopes alive for Coon Rapids (3-3-0), which, like Duluth East, plays out of Section 7AA in the postseason.

Cole Christian and Henry Murray scored to give Duluth East a 6-3 lead. Winkler and Ian Christian scored in the third to complete the scoring.

Duluth East outshoot Coon Rapids 63-19.

New Ulm 2, Luverne 1

NEW ULM - Bryer Lang's two goals allowed New Ulm to stay unbeaten with a 2-1 win over Luverne at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Lang scored in the first and second periods for New Ulm (5-0-0). Henry Hartquist's third-period goal brought Luverne (2-1-1) within one but that was it for the Cardinals.

Tyler Arends made 49 saves for Luverne.

Monticello 7, Cambridge-Isanti 3

MONTICELLO - Six players scored for Monticello as it recorded a 7-3 win over Cambridge-Isanti at Moose Sherritt Ice Arena.

The victory was the first of the season for Monticello (1-3-1).

Cambridge-Isanti (2-2-0) scored first on Seth Terhell's power-play goal but Monticello tied the game on Brayden Dunn's goal with 2:57 left in the first.

The Moose then scored three-straight goals to open the second. Tyler Miller and Jake Larson scored 10 seconds apart for a 3-1 lead. Dunn's second goal pushed the lead to 4-1 before Terhell scored again on the power play.

Tyler Bitz gave Monticello a 5-2 lead but Terhell scored with 51 seconds left in the second to make it 5-3. Gunnar Simon and Quinton Brooks completed the scoring for the Moose.
