Hockey Night: Chanhassen beats Chaska, breaks 13-game hex

Dec. 6: Storm ends winless drought against archrival Hawks; Benilde-St. Margaret's shuts out Andover; Moorhead overpowers Roseau

Chanhassen 4, Chaska 0

CHASKA - Tyler Smith scored two goals as Chanhassen defeated Chaska for the first time since the 2015-16 season as the Storm snapped Chaska's 13-game win streak in the series with a 4-0 win on Tuesday at Chaska Community Center.

Drew Jensen added two assists for No. 10-2A Chanhassen (3-1-0) which outshot Chaska (1-3-0) 29-12.

Chaska beat Chanhassen three times last season, including 3-2 in the Section 2AA playoffs, the first time the rivals met in the postseason.

Benilde-St. Margaret's 3, Andover 0

ANDOVER - Drew Stewart's three-point night and Mason McElroy's 21 saves led Benilde-St. Margaret's to a 3-0 win over Andover at the Andover Community Center in a matchup of top-10 ranked teams.

Stewart recorded a power-play goal in the first, assisted on Michael Risteau's power-play goal in the second and scored with 5:07 left in the third for No. 7-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's (1-1-0).

Cal Conway stopped 34 shots for the Huskies as No. 3-2A Andover, the defending state Class 2A champion, fell to 3-2-0.

Moorhead 5, Roseau 1

ROSEAU - Moorhead erupted for four third-period goals as the Spuds recorded a 5-1 win over Roseau at the Roseau Memorial Arena.

Moorhead (3-3-0), which has won five of the last six Section 8AA championships -- including three against Roseau -- took the lead when Parker Gast scored 3:06 into the third.

Earlier in the third, Roseau's Gavin Jensen tied the game 1:37 into the period.

Fifty-two seconds after Gast's goal, Garrett Lindberg scored for a 3-1 lead. After the Spuds' Aaron Reierson scored on the power play, Gast scored with 6:44 remaining for the win.

Moorhead outshot Roseau, 35-21. Abe Carlson led the Spuds with two assists.

Stillwater 2, White Bear Lake 1

STILLWATER - Kyle Einan scored with 7:11 remaining to give Stillwater a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten No. 8-2A White Bear Lake at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.

White Bear Lake (3-1-0) took a 1-0 lead when Joe Belisle scored with 10 seconds remaining in the first.

Riley Souza evened the scored midway in the second before Einan got the game-winner for Stillwater (3-1-0).

Tomas Anderson stopped 28 shots for the Ponies.

Hibbing/Chisholm 3, Duluth Denfeld 3 (OT)

DULUTH - Andy Larson's power-play goal with 5:29 remaining in the third period closed the scoring as Duluth Denfeld forged a 3-3 overtime time with Hibbing/Chisholm in a matchup of Section 7A rivals at Heritage Sports Center.

No. 9-1A Hibbing/Chisholm (3-2-0) led 3-1 early in the second period on a Tristen Babich power-play goal.

Duluth Denfeld (2-0-0) started its comeback less than a minute later with a Brady McGinn power-play goal. 

Brayden Boyer made 33 saves for Hibbing/Chisholm. Connor Doyle had 30 stops for Denfeld.

Providence Academy 7, Minneapolis 3

PLYMOUTH - Providence Academy's Louie Wehmann and Johnny Hendrickson combined for six goals and five assists as the Lions recorded a 7-3 win over Minneapolis in a Section 2A showdown at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Wehmann and Hendrickson combined for five goals in the second period as No. 6-1A Providence Academy (4-0-0) pulled away for the lead.

Minneapolis (0-3-0) led 2-1 after one period after goals by Andrew Lybeck and Cody Kelker. Wehmann scored on the power play for the Lions' goal.

After a goal by Brandon Sattler tied it, Wehmann scored two-straight goals for a 4-2 lead. Hendrickson then added two goals for a 6-2 lead. After a goal by Joel Hanson, Wehmann's fourth goal made it 7-3.

Wehmann, a junior, is tied for second in the state in scoring with 23 points. Hendrickson is tied for third with 17.

Little Falls 7, Alexandria 2

ALEXANDRIA - Matt Fillippi erupted for four goals as Little Falls upended Alexandria 7-2 at Runestone Community Center, keeping the Cardinals - a consensus top-10 to start the season - winless after three games.

Fillippi, who scored 75 points last season to rank fourth among the state's returning scorers, scored the only two goals of the first period and added another in the second as the Flyers built a 4-1 lead. 

Coltin Johnson chipped in three assists and Richie Varriano made 30 saves for No. 12-1A Little Falls (2-2-0). 

Kasen Muscha and Jack Lamski scored the goals for No. 8-1A Alexandria (0-3-0)

St. Cloud Cathedral 7, Princeton 2

ST. CLOUD - Cole Hwang and Vince Gebhardt each scored twice as St. Cloud Cathedral defeated Princeton 7-2 at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

Following Andrew Dwinnell's goal, Hwang scored twice in the first to give Cathedral (1-3-0) a 3-1 lead after one.

Gebhardt then gave the Crusaders a 5-2 lead when he scored its first two goals in the second.

Princeton (1-2-0) got goals from Eli Christopher and Dominic Patnode.

Hwang and Philip O'Neal each added two assists for Cathedral.

Irondale 5, Anoka 0

BLAINE - Junior Alex Sabev became the second goalie this season to record 35 or more saves in a shutout as he stopped 44 shots in Irondale's 5-0 triumph over Anoka at the Super Rink.

Sabev is familiar with facing high shots counts. He also recorded a 43-save shutout against Mounds View last season. 

Five players scored goals for the Knights (2-1-1), who got two assists each from Jack Townsend and Lincoln Urdahl. Lauren Lafferty made 24 saves for Anoka (0-2-0).

La Crescent-Hokah 9, West Salem (Wis.) 0

LA CRESCENT - Junior forward Wyatt Farrell became the fourth player this season to score five goals in a single game, joining teammate Cooper Carlson on the list, as La Crescent-Hokah beat West Salem (Wis.) 9-0 at La Crescent Community Arena.

Farrell, who has 12 goals in five games this season and 101 in his career, scored three of the Lancers' (3-2-0) first four goals as they built a 5-0 lead through two periods.

Farrell also added three assists, and his 16 points is the fourth most among the state's leaders.
