Hockey Night: Andover, Minnetonka open with victories

Nov. 25: St. Thomas Academy upends rival Cretin-Derham Hall; Little Falls tops Monticello in OT

Andover 6, Chanhassen 3

MINNETONKA - Andover's Gavyn Thoreson scored two goals to lead the defending state Class 2A champion Huskies to a 6-3 win over Chanhassen in the first round of Tonka Thanksgiving Preview at Pagel Activity Center.

Thoreson started the scoring but Chanhassen's Jake Risch tied the game. With 2:45 left in the first, Andover's Cooper Conway gave the Huskies a 2-1 lead. They led the rest of the way.

Minnetonka 8, Rochester Mayo 2

MINNETONKA - Sam Scheetz scored twice and added two assists and John Stout also had two goals for Minnetonka as it cruised past Rochester Mayo 8-2 in the opening round of the Tonka Thanksgiving Preview at Pagel Activity Center.

Jacob Brown and Ethan Dennis scored for Rochester Mayo in the first period, which ended with the scored tied 2-2.

The Skippers scored six unanswered goals over the final two periods.

St. Thomas Academy 4, Cretin-Derham Hall 2

BLOOMINGTON - St. Thomas Academy built a 3-0 lead on its way to a 4-2 win over arch rival Cretin-Derham Hall in the first round of The Opener at Bloomington Ice Garden.

Will Dosan and Lucas Kickhofel gave the Cadets a 2-0 lead after two periods before Tommy Cronin pushed the lead to 3-0 2:30 into the third.

Cretin-Derham Hall's Jake Fisher and Attila Lippai scored to cut the lead to 3-2. Dosan closed the scoring with 41 seconds left.

Mahtomedi 4, Northfield 2

ST. PAUL - Three third-period goals powered Mahtomedi to a 4-2 win over Northfield in the first round of Charity Shield Classic at TRIA Rink.

After Northfield's Jake Geiger scored his second goal to give the Raiders a 2-1 lead with 3:09 left in the second, Seth Nelson's second goal tied the game 3:33 into the third.

Charlie Drage gave the Zephyrs the lead one minute later. Carter Haycraft scored with 1:05 left for the final margin.

Little Falls 2, Monticello 1 (OT)

ST. PAUL - Carter Oothoudt scored 1:42 in overtime to lead Little Falls to a 2-1 win over Monticello in the first round of Charity Shield Classic at TRIA Rink.

Monticello's Jake Larson gave the Moose a 1-0 lead in the second period but Colton Johnson tied the game with 9:41 left in the third period.

Little Falls' Richie Varriano made 33 saves.

Warroad 7, Delano 1

DELANO - Ryan Lund, Carson Pilgrim and Murray Marvin-Cordes each scored two goals to lead Warroad to a 7-1 win over Delano.

Warroad, last season's Class A runner-up, took a 2-0 lead after first-period goals by Lund and Pilgrim. Pilgrim pushed the lead to 3-0 just 35 seconds into the second period.

Erick Comstock added three assists while Jayson Shaugabay and Lund each recorded two.

The Warriors outshot Delano 27-14.
