HIBBING - Hayden Davis' power-play goal with 2:07 remaining broke a tie and helped lift Grand Rapids past Hibbing/Chisholm 3-1 on Wednesday night at the Hibbing Memorial Building -- one of two games on the season's opening night.
Davis, a senior forward, drilled a high shot into the net from the the top of the left faceoff circle for what proved to be the winning goal. He also assisted Will Stauffer's second-period goal that tied the score at 1.
Gavin Forrest added an empty net goal for the Thunderhawks with 1:22 remaining.
Hibbing/Chisholm's Broden Fawcett opened the scoring with a second-period goal. Grand Rapids goaltender Myles Gunderson made 24 saves to earn the victory.

ROSEVILLE - Twin brothers Luke and Landon Steffen, senior transfers who played at Blaine last season, each scored twice to power Roseville to a 6-2 triumph over St. Paul Highland Park at Roseville Ice Arena.
The score was tied at 2-2 early in the third period when Charlie Krey's power-play goal put the Raiders ahead to stay. Two goals by Landon Steffen sandwiched one from Luke Steffen to close out the scoring.
The brothers, playing for their father and Roseville coach Scott Steffen, finished with four points each.
