Inside Scoop

The question for the Trojans will be which squad takes the ice?

The one which won four of its last five games or the team that lost seven straight from Jan. 20 through Feb. 5?

Regardless, playing in the Metro West Conference has made New Prague a surprisingly tough out this postseason.

“We trust our schedule,” Trojans coach Brad Drazan said. “Our schedule has prepared us for this.”

The Trojans’ run through the Section 1A playoffs included an overtime win over top-seeded Northfield in the semifinals. To keep their hot streak going, senior goaltender Carter Puente must continue his stellar play.

He allowed only five goals in the section playoffs, stopping 77 of 82 shots for a .939 save percentage. While goals don’t come often for the Trojans, five players (Charlie Turnberg, Will Andersen, Luke Portner, Willy Seymour and John Schmidt) accounted for the 56 percent of the team’s goals.

Schmidt, the team’s leader in most every way, and Seymour each have 10 goals. Turnberg had two in the section championship win over Albert Lea.
