Hockey Night: Top seeds all cruise to wins in Section 3AA

Feb. 22: No. 1 Cretin-Derham Hall eases past Burnsville; Lake of the Woods registers lone upset of the night

Section 3AA Quarterfinals

Cretin-Derham Hall 6, Burnsville 1

ST. PAUL - Jake Fisher scored twice and had an assist and Kevin Odlaug had a goal and two assists on Tuesday to lead No. 1 seeded and No. 1-2A ranked Cretin-Derham Hall to a 6-1 victory against No. 8 seed Burnsville at Highland Arena.

On a stormy day when most of the state's playoff games were postponed to Wednesday, all four quarterfinal matchups in Section 3AA went off as scheduled. 

Fisher, a junior committed to play at Northern Michigan, scored a goal and added an assist as the Raiders (22-3-0) scored three times by the midpoint of the second period to take a 5-1 lead.

Eli Wells scored the lone goal for Burnsville (0-24-2).

Eastview 8, Eagan 0

APPLE VALLEY - Jordan Brothers scored twice in a six-goal second period for No. 3 seed Eastview as it cruised past No. 6 seed Eagan 8-0 at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

Tanner Kronberg also scored twice for the Lightning (16-10-0), who has a 48-29 advantage in shots on goal.

Jay Svaren and Connor Christian combined on the shutout for Eastview. Tryg LaVallie made 40 stops for Eagan (9-17-0).

St. Thomas Academy 8, Apple Valley 2

MENDOTA HEIGHTS - Zach Howard scored twice and added an assist as No. 19-2A St. Thomas Academy, the section's No. 2 seed, sailed past No. 7 seed Apple Valley 8-2 at the St. Thomas Ice Arena.

Tyler Grahame, Luke Candon and Mac Dose each had a goal and an assist for the Cadets (13-12-1).

Sam Arendt scored both goals for the Apple Valley (7-17-12).

Rosemount 6, Park of Cottage Grove 0

ROSEMOUNT - Carson Liebaet scroed two straight power-play goals to get No. 4 seed Rosemount started and the Irish finished with four power-play goals in all as they cruised past No. 5 seed Park of Cottage Grove 6-0 at the Rosemount Ice Arena.

Hans Hedlund also scored twice for Rosemount (12-3-1), which got 12 saves from goaltender Will Pasch. Alex Harden stopped 35 of 41 shots for Park (13-11-1)

Section 2A First Round

Southwest Christian/Richfield 6, Bloomington Kennedy 3

RICHFIELD - Third-period goals from Josh Larson and Andrew Erhart allowed No. 6 seed Southwest Christian/Richfield to break open a one-goal game and pull away for a 6-3 win over No. 11 seed Bloomington Kennedy at Richfield Ice Arena.

Bloomington Kennedy (6-19-1) closed to within 4-3 on a Luke Dosan goal early in the third period.

But a shorthanded goal by Larson with 8:52 remaining and Erhart's second of the night pulled the Stars (11-13-2) in front for good.

SECTION 8A FIRST ROUND

Lake of the Woods 6, Crookston 0

CROOKSTON - Tenth-seeded Lake of the Woods didn't just register the lone upset of the night, the Bears did it in convincing fashion, beating No. 7 seed Crookston 6-0 at the Crookston Sports Center. 

Jack Wood scored three goals and Randy Wood had two for the Bears (9-12-1). Riley Stromlund made 32 saves for the shuout.

Jaren Bailey had 28 stops for Crookston (6-18-1), which defeated Lake of the Woods 4-3 on Feb. 14.

No. 8 seed Park Rapids beat No. 9 seed Bagley/Fosston 6-3 in Tuesday's other Section 8A first-round game.
