Madigan gives Hill-Murray dramatic OT win over Moorhead

Feb. 19: Spuds tied the Pioneers late on a Bentz penalty shot; Warroad tops Delano; Winona Cotter gets first win

Hill-Murray 5, Moorhead 4 (OT)

MOORHEAD - Anthony Madigan scored with 8 seconds left in overtime to left No. 2-2A Hill-Murray to a 5-4 triumph over No. 8-2A Moorhead on Saturday at the Moorhead Sports Center.

Madigan took a feed in the slot from Brendan Bonin and snapped a shot just inside the right post to beat Moorhead goaltender Kai Weigel.

Moorhead (18-6-1) tied it at 4-4 with 2:35 remaining on a penalty shot goal by leading scorer Harper Bentz. After a series of dekes, Bentz slid a low shot between Hill-Murray goaltender Jack Erickson's skates.

The goal was Bentz's second of the game and 31st of the season. 

Bonin, Madigan and Dylan Godbout each had a goal and an assist for Hill-Murray (20-4-1), which closed the regular season with a four-game win streak.

The loss was the first for Moorhead since Dec. 18 and halted a 15-game unbeaten streak.

Warroad 4, Delano 1

DELANO - Hampton Slukynsky stopped 25 shots as No. 2-1A Warroad beat No. 5-1A Delano 4-1 at the Delano Area Sports Arena.

Slukynsky blanked the Tigers (18-7-0) for 46 minutes before Anders Peterson scored, but Warroad (21-3-1) had three goals at that point.

Warroad's Matt Hard scored in the first and Carson Reed and Eric Comstock added goals in the second. Jayson Shaugabay scored in the third for the Warriors.

Reed added two assists as did Carson Pilgrim.

Winona Cotter 4, Worthington 3

WINONA - Winona Cotter notched its first win of the season and first since reviving its varsity program, hanging on to beat Worthington 4-3 on the outdoor rink adjacent to Bud King Ice Arena.

The victory was Cotter's first in 11 games this season and completed the Ramblers' regular season.

Worthington (12-13-0) defeated Cotter 5-4 on Friday night, also outdoors at Bud King Ice Arena.

Blaine 6, White Bear Lake 5 (OT)

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Alex Hauck scored 3:19 into overtime to give Blaine a 6-5 win over White Bear Lake at the TCO Sports Garden.

The Bears tied the score with Joe Belisle's goal with 4:29 left in regulation.

The teams traded the lead in the first as Blaine's Luke Steffen opened the scoring but Devin Willett and Charlie Olson scored to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.

Steffen scored his second and Bryce Laager scored with 41 seconds left to give the Bengals (13-8-4) a 3-2 lead.

Laager scored 64 seconds into the second before Nick Mikan gave Blaine a 5-2 lead. Aiden Welch and Nolan Roed scored in the second for White Bear Lake (14-10-0), which trailed 5-4 after two.

Blake 4, Gentry Academy 1

HOPKINS - Roy Chebaclo's goal to open the third period started a three-goal run for Blake as the Bears defeated Gentry Academy 4-1 at the Blake Ice Arena.

Blake (16-9-0) beat Gentry 4-1 Friday.

After Carter Krenke scored for Blake in the first. Wes Berg tied the game for Gentry (19-6-0) in the second.

Chebaclo scored 2:43 into the third for a 2-1 lead. Keaton Rannow and William Matzke added goals later in the period.

Blake's Jonah Spaeth stopped 20 of 21 shots.

Tartan 4, Chisago Lakes 3 (OT)

LINDSTROM - Chet Bertelsen scored with 34 seconds left in overtime to lead Tartan to a 4-3 win over No. 12-1A Chisago Lakes at the Chisago Lakes Ice Arena.

The Titans (15-9-1) built a 2-1 lead on goals by Blake Tuccitto and Gavin Buche. They scored after Chisago Lakes' Nicholas Helland opened the scoring with a short-handed goal.

The Wildcats (19-5-1) tied the score in the second on a short-handed goal by Cullen Dorcas. Buche scored his second goal of the game before Benjamin Jinks scored with 52 seconds left to tie the game again.

Bertelsen added two assists as did Helland.

Harrison Seymour's goal in overtime lifted Brainerd past St. Cloud 3-2 in a Section 8AA playoff matchup, one of seven first-round games completed on Saturday.
