Junior forward Tanner Ludtke scored twice to propel No. 9-2A Lakeville South to a 3-1 victory over No. 15-2A Prior Lake Friday at the Dakotah! Ice Center in Prior Lake.
Ludtke scored what proved to be the winning goal late in the second period and added an empty net goal with 1:31 remaining to secure the victory, extending the Cougars’ unbeaten streak to 13 to close the regular season.
Lakeville South (22-3-0) took an early 1-0 lead on Tate Pritchard’s goal 3:12 into the opening period.
Prior Lake’s Alex Bump, a leading Mr. Hockey Award candidate, scored with 6:13 left in the second period — batting a puck out of the air and past Prior Lake goaltender Trevor Boschee — to make it 1-1 and energize the massive Lakers' student section. Bump’s goal was his team-leading 36th of the season.
The buzz didn’t last long, however, as Ludtke scored with 2:31 left in the second to put the Cougars back on top at 2-1. Ludtke’s two goals give him him a team-high 21.
The Cougars had four power-play opportunities to the Lakers’ one and had a 36-20 advantage in shots on goal.
The loss halted a five-game win streak for Prior Lake, which ends the regular season with a 15-10-0 record.
