Hockey Night: Kranz's late goal lifts Lakeville North past Hastings

Feb. 17: Centennial outlasts White Bear Lake in OT; Wayzata slips past Rosemount; Forest Lake's McKinnon extends freshman scoring lead

Lakeville North 5, Hastings 4

HASTINGS - Griffin Kranz scored with 8 seconds left to lift Lakeville North to a 5-4 win over Hastings on Thursday night at the Hastings Civic Arena, a win that likely assured the Panthers (18-6-0) of the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Section 1AA playoffs.

Hastings' Luke Savage and Lakeville North's Luke Jech traded first-period goals.

Kyle Doll and Kaleb Hurd scored power-play goals in the second for the Panthers. Those goals sandwiched a goal by Connor Stoffell as Lakeville North led 3-2 after two.

Each team scored twice in the third period.

Hastings (19-4-1) is likely to receive the No. 3 seed in the section and could face Lakeville North again in a section semifinal.

Centennial 4, White Bear Lake 3 (OT)

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Cade Anderson scored 67 seconds into overtime as No. 12-2A Centennial defeated White Bear Lake 4-3 at the TCO Sports Garden.

White Bear Lake tied the game with 5:07 left in regulation on a Nicholas O'Brien goal.

Centennial (17-5-3) built a 3-1 lead midway in the second after goals by Matt Everson, Brody Pass and Jacob Hoylo.

The Bears (14-9-0) cut the lead to 3-2 with a second-period goal by Charles Olsen.

Wayzata 4, Rosemount 3

PLYMOUTH - Rhys Wallin scored with 10:41 left in the third period to give No. 10-2A Wayzata a 4-3 win over Rosemount at the Plymouth Ice Center.

The Irish (10-13-1) tied the game at 3-3 on Hans Hedlund's goal in the second period.

Rosemount's Jackson Garner opened the scoring 5 minutes into the first.

The Trojans (16-7-1) then scored three-straight goals as Brittan Alstead, Luke Miller and John Mattson gave Wayzata  a 3-1 lead.

Rosemount cut the lead to one with Luca Salak's goal with 3:53 to play in the first.

Rosemount outshot Wayzata 33-26.

Forest Lake 7, Spring Lake Park 6

FOREST LAKE - Malachi McKinnon, the state's freshman scoring leader with 48 points, scored three goals as Forest Lake hung on to defeat Spring Lake Park 7-6 at the Forest Lake Sports Center.

Senior Blake Lueck scored two of his three goals in under five minutes to bring the Spring Lake Park (12-13-0) within one at 7-6 when he scored with 15 seconds to play. Lueck ranks fifth in the state with 41 goals.

Forest Lake (12-12-1) built a 4-2 lead after the first period and a 5-3 lead after two. McKinnon scored twice in the third period to give the Rangers a 7-4 lead.

Holy Family 4, Stillwater 3 (OT)

VICTORIA - Nick Blood scored with 4:15 left in overtime to give Holy Family a 4-3 win over No. 18-2A Stillwater at the Victoria Ice Arena.

Holy Family sophomore Kam Hendrickson made 41 saves, including four in the overtime session.

Parker Osborne and Stillwater's Ty Tuccitto traded goals in the first. The Ponies opened the second period with a goal by Riley Skuza before Mason Grinnell and Mason Fasching scored for the Fire (12-13-0) in the second.

Skuza forced overtime with a goal midway in the second.

Grinnell was credited with two assists.

Stillwater (16-8-1) outshot the Fire 44-28.

Brainerd 2, Alexandria 2 (OT)

ALEXANDRIA - Brainerd's Ryan Kennedy scored with 2:34 left in the regulation as the Warriors and No. 7-1A Alexandria skated to a 2-2 tie at the Runestone Community Center.

Jed Klang made 34 saves for Brainerd (5-18-2).

Bryce Berg's 24th goal of the season gave the Cardinals (16-6-2) a quick lead before Kalvin Stengrim added a power-play goal for the Warriors.

Joe Lamski gave Alexandria a 2-1 lead after two with his goal with 3:06 left in the period.

Alexandria outshot Brainerd 36-21.

Holy Angels 6, Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper 5

RICHFIELD - Henry Lechner and Ricky Nelson scored in the third period as No. 20-2A Holy Angels defeated Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper 6-5 at the Richfield Ice Arena.

After Lechner and Nelson scored in the third period's first 4:05, Sam Burns scored for Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper with 17 seconds to play.

Holy Angels (21-3-1) outshot the Wings 62-29. Reid Lucas stopped 56 shots for Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper.

After Jonathon Essen opened the scoring for Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper (7-15-3), Holy Angels scored three times to close the first period as Nik Johnson, Jack Bartfield and Noah Hermanson scored for the Stars.

Essen and Charlie Goergen scored power-play goals for the Wings to tie the game midway through the second. Aidan Cook then gave the Wings a 4-3 lead before Alex Lesnar's power-play goal tied the game for Holy Angels.

Holy Angels closes the regular season on a seven-game win streak.
