Hockey Night: Long win streaks end for Benilde-St. Margaret's, Hastings

Feb. 12: Chaska knocks off Red Knights, Champlin Park eases past Raiders

Chaska 2, Benilde-St. Margaret's 1

ST. LOUIS PARK - Senior forward Timmy Leroy's goal with 6:59 remaining proved to be the winner as No. 18-2A Chaska upended No. 4-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's 2-1 on Saturday at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

The loss halted a 15-game win streak for the Red Knights. Chaska extended its win streak to 10 games.

Leroy also had an assist on Sam Scheetz's second-period goal that put Chaska (18-5-0) ahead 1-0. 

Brendan McMorrow scored in the second period for Benilde-St. Margaret's (17-5-0) to tie it at 1-1.

Champlin Park 4, Hastings 1

HASTINGS - Evan Williams scored two goals to lead Champlin Park to a 4-1 upset win over No. 20-2A Hastings at the Hastings Civic Center.

Williams gave the Rebels (14-7-1) a 1-0 lead by scoring with 1:32 left in the first. Ryker Grant extended the lead to 2-0 with his second-period goal.

Hastings (19-3-1) got on the board when Connor Stoffel scored on the power play with 14:45 remaining.

However, Champlin Park's Brody Olson and Williams were the next players to score, ending Hastings' win streak at 15.

Rochester Lourdes 4, Providence Academy 3

ROCHESTER - Matthew Mahoney's breakaway goal with 1 second remaining lifted Rochester Lourdes to a stunning 4-3 victory over No. 11-1A Providence Academy at Graham Arena.

Mahoney was skating at top speed when he reached a long pass inside the Lions' blue line and fired a quick shot that beat goaltender Nate Miest, touching off a wild celebration on the ice and in the student section jammed along the glass.

The goal, set up by defenseman Charlie Kielty's feed from deep inside the Lourdes' end, was Mahoney's team-leading 26th of the season.

The Eagles (18-6-0) have won eight of their last nine games, including five straight. Providence Academy (17-6-1) has lost three of its last five.

Maple Grove 4, Andover 1

ANDOVER - Sophomore Danny Nelson scored twice and senior Toby Hopp made 31 saves as No. 7-2A Maple Grove upended No. 1-2A Andover 4-1 at the Andover Community Center.

Finn Brink and Nelson scored in the first period for Maple Grove (18-5-1) as it built a 2-0 lead. Nelson added the lone goal of the second to make it 3-0.

Logan Seward pulled Andover (19-5-1) to within 3-1 early in the third, but the Crimson's Landen Gunderson scored an empty net goal with 1 minute remaining to clinch the victory.

Edina 3, Minnetonka 2

EDINA - Trey Fechko scored twice and added an assist and Jimmy Clark had a goal and an assist as No. 10-2A Edina held on for a 3-2 win over No. 16-2A Minnetonka at Braemar Arena.

Sophomore Javon Moore scored twice for Minnetonka (13-9-1), and both times his goals pulled the Skippers to within 1 (at 2-1 in the first period and 3-2 in the third).

Wayzata 3, Eden Prairie 1

PLYMOUTH - Luke Miller scored two third-period goals to lead No. 9-2A Wayzatza to a 3-1 win over No. 14-2A Eden Prairie (13-10-0) at the Plymouth Ice Center.

Franco Canevari opened the scoring for Wayzata in the first. Miller then gave the Trojans (14-8-1) a 2-0 lead by scoring 1:22 into the third. Eden Prairie's Ryan Koering cut the lead to 2-1 with his goal one minute later. However, Miller scored 71 seconds later to end Eden Prairie's comeback hopes.

Will Ingemann made 25 saves for Wayzata.

Hermantown 6, St. Thomas Academy 3

HERMANTOWN - No. 1-1A Hermantown scored the game's last three goals to break a 3-3 tie and go on to defeat St. Thomas Academy 6-3 at the Hermantown Ice Arena.

Dallas Vieau and George Peterson scored in the first period for the Hawks (22-2-0), while St. Thomas Academy (12-11-1) got on the scoreboard with Brooks Bond's goal.

The teams traded goals in the second, Max Plante scored on the power play and Tyler Grahme scored for the Cadets.

After St. Thomas Academy's Robert Cunningham tied the game eight seconds into the third, Ty Hanson started the Hawks' three-goal outburst with a power-play goal with 10:14 remaining.

Zam Plante scored to make it 5-3 and Max Plante added his second goal for the final margin.

Max Plante had two goals and two assists while Zam Plante, a night after surpassing 100 career points, added three assists to go along with his goal.

Thief River Falls 4, Fergus Falls 2

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Tysen Loeffler and Morgan Rude scored in the game's final 76 seconds to break a tie and lead No. 18-1A Thief River Falls to a 4-2 upset win over No. 8-1A Fergus Falls at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

The Prowlers (11-11-0) and Fergus Falls (15-8-0) traded goals in the first but Thief River Falls' Max Arlt scored the second period's lone goal. The Otters' Isaac Johnson tied the score with 5:37 to play before Loeffler and Rude scored their goals.

Totino-Grace 5, Little Falls 2

MINNEAPOLIS - Totino-Grace scored the game's first four goals and never looked back in its 5-2 win over No. 9-1A Little Falls at the Brooklyn Park Ice Arena.

The Eagles (9-15-1), who have won three straight, converted two power-play opportunities in the second to take a 3-0 lead.

After Rudy Mihelich gave Totino-Grace a 4-0 lead three minutes into the third, Little Falls (19-4-0) scored twice. However, Howie Moore's goal with four minutes left ended the Flyers' comeback hopes.

The Flyers, who started the season with a 15-game winning streak, have lost three of their last five games.

Chanhassen 4, Orono 3

VICTORIA - Gavin Uhlenkamp scored twice and added an assist as Chanhassen held off No. 16-1A Orono for a 4-3 victory at the Victoria Recreation Center.

Col Baker scored a power-play goal 5:30 into the second and Tyler Smith added a goal 38 seconds into the third as Chanhassen took a 3-1 lead.

The teams traded goals before and after the Storm (18-4-1) scored back-to-back.

Brock Peyton made 36 saves for Orono (9-12-1).

Elk River/Zimmerman 5, Blaine 1

ELK RIVER - Blake Johnson scored twice and Sam Stockman stopped 27 shots as Elk River/Zimmerman defeated Blaine 5-1 at the Elk River Ice Arena.

Johnson gave the Elks (17-7-1) the lead before Andrew Swanson scored for Blaine (11-8-4) to tie the game. Erik Pilich then gave the Elks the lead back with a goal with 2:35 remaining in the first.

Johnson opened the second period with a goal, and Blaise Schutt added one midway in the second. Marcus Fritel added a third-period goal.

Blake Reinhart added two assists for the Elks.
