Hockey Night: Hill-Murray extends hex over Edina

Feb. 4: Pioneers beat Hornets in overtime; Shaugabay's late goal in OT lifts Warroad past Thief River Falls

Hill-Murray 4, Edina 3 (OT)

SHOREWOOD - Hill-Murray's Anthony Madigan scored 2:36 into overtime to give No. 3-2A Hill-Murray a 4-3 win over No. 9-2A Edina at Aldrich Arena, the Pioneers' sixth straight regular season victory over the Hornets.

The home-and-home series continues Saturday at Edina's Braemar Arena.

The Pioneers (16-3-1) forced overtime when defenseman Leo Gruba scored a power-play goal with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

Edina (12-8-0), which had been shut out in the teams' previous four meetings, opened the scoring with Jimmy Clark's goal 3:56 into the first. Hill-Murray's Dylan Godbout tied the game with 8:209 left in the first.

The Hornets regained the lead with Matt VanderVort's goal 62 seconds into the second. Hill-Murray tied the game again, this time with Brady Ingebritson's goal with three minutes left in the period. Edina's Trey Fechko scored 10 seconds later.

Warroad 4, Thief River Falls 3 (OT)

THIEF RIVER FALLS - Jayson Shaugabay scored with five seconds left in overtime as No 2-1A Warroad recorded a 4-3 overtime win over Thief River Falls at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

No. 20-1A Thief River Falls (10-10-0) took a 1-0 lead when Brendan Bottem scored the first of his three goals 62 seconds into the game.

Warroad (17-3-1) scored 1:35 into the second period with Eric Comstock's power-play goal. The Warriors then took a 2-1 lead when Jack Jones scored with 2:50 left in the period.

Bottem tied the game with 13:27 left but Shaugabay gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead 78 seconds later. Bottem completed his hat trick to tie the game with 1:31 left.

Warroad outshot Thief River Falls 50-21.

River Lakes 4, Mora/Milaca 1

PAYNESVILLE - River Lakes scored two goals in both the first and second period as it handed Mora/Milaca a 4-1 loss at Koronis Civic Arena.

Joel Sowada and Jayden Scheierl scored in the first as the Stars  (10-11-0) took a 2-0 lead and limited Mora/Milaca (15-5-2) to only three shots on goal.

Bradey Blaschko and Cole Pientka pushed Rivers Lakes' lead to 4-0 in the second.

Parker Mitchell, the state's top scorer, scored with 3:10 remaining for Mora/Milaca.

Chanhassen 5, St. Louis Park 0

ST. LOUIS PARK - Junior defenseman Col Baker had a goal and an assist and Sean Gates stopped 10 shots as Chanhassen cruised to a 5-0 win over St. Louis Park at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

The Storm (15-4-1), who led 1-0 after the first and 2-0 after the second, outshot St. Louis Park (9-10-1) 36-10.

Chanhassen had five players score a goal and four players each record two assists. The shutout was Gates' third of the season.

Roseau 8, East Grand Forks 1

EAST GRAND FORKS - Max Strand, Kellen Murphy and Gavin Gunderson each scored two goals as No. 5-2A Roseau (18-3-0) won its fifth-straight by downing East Grand Forks 8-1 at the East Grand Forks Civic Center.

Finley Lisakowski scored with 8:05 left for No. 14-1A East Grand Forks (8-12-0).
