Feb. 3: Sophomore Gavin Garry's goal lifts Skippers past Trojans; Five players register hat tricks in Fairmont's wild 11-10 OT win over Waseca

Minnetonka 1, Wayzata 0

DATELINE - Sophomore Gavin Garry scored the lone goal midway through the second period as No. 18-2A Minnetonka beat No. 8-2A Wayzata 1-0 on Thursday at the Plymouth Ice Center to sweep the teams' regular season series.

After a Wayzata turnover in the neutral zone, Garry broke into the Trojans' zone and fired a low shot that beat Will Ingemann on his blocker side. The goal was Garry's team-leading 11th of the season.

Just two penalties were called, one on each team, and neither goaltender was particularly busy. Ingemann finished with 16 saves for Wayzata (13-6-1).

Junior Kaiser Nelson, making his third varsity start, earned his second shutout by stopping 19 shots.

Minnetonka (12-8-1) beat Wayzata 4-1 on Jan. 8 in the teams' previous meeting.

The combined 21 goals is believed to be the highest total for a game this season but falls well short of the state record 27 recorded in Moorhead’s 27-0 victory over Monticello in the 2004 Section 8AA quarterfinals.
