Hockey Night: St. Thomas Academy rallies to tie Stillwater

Feb. 1: Minneapolis needs OT to top Osseo; Red Wing's Ehlers notches 33-save shutout; White Bear Lake uses late surge to beat Roseville

St. Thomas Academy 3, Stillwater 3 (OT)

MENDOTA HEIGHTS - No. 17-2A St. Thomas Academy rallied from a three-goal deficit by scoring three goals in a span of 79 seconds late in the third period to forge a 3-3 tie with No. 16-2A Stillwater on Tuesday at St. Thomas Ice Arena.

St. Thomas Academy's Zach Howard had the best scoring chance in the overtime period, ripping a shot off the right goalpost in the closing minutes. 

Cam Briere, a junior forward committed to Nebraska Omaha, scored all three goals for Stillwater (14-5-1). He scored the lone goal of the first period and, after a scoreless second, added two more in the first 7:23 of the third.

The Cadets (11-9-1) scored all their goals in the final 7:16, with two coming from defenseman Will Skahan and the other from forward Tommy Cronin. Two of the goals came on power plays.

Stillwater goaltender Tomas Anderson made 51 saves. The Cadets' Matt Schoepherster had 33 stops.

Minneapolis 2, Osseo 1 (OT)

OSSEO - Jack Hanson scored on a pretty passing play with his brother Joel with 17 seconds left in overtime as No. 5-1A Minneapolis beat upset-minded Osseo 2-1 at Dick Vraa Memorial Ice Arena.

Zander Zoia also assisted on the winning goal, which completed a high-speed rush into the Osseo zone. 

Eli Paloranta scored for Osseo (2-14-2) and Drew Pitts for Minneapolis (13-3-0) in a span of just less than four minutes in the second period.

Jake Regan made 28 saves for Osseo; Alex Lamont had 15 for Minneapolis.

Red Wing 2, South St. Paul 0

SOUTH ST. PAUL - Dixon Ehlers continued his brilliant senior season by making 33 saves as Red Wing beat South St. Paul 2-0 at Doug Woog Arena.

Senior Casey Larson scored both goals for the Wingers (8-11-0), giving him a team-high 21 this season. He scored midway through the second and added an empty-net goal with 1:12 remaining.

Ehlers had a typically hectic night, stopping 30 or more shots for the 17th time this season. He ranks third in the state with a .932 save percentage.

Benjamin Bangura made 35 saves for South St. Paul (3-16-0).

White Bear Lake 5, Roseville 2

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - White Bear Lake scored three goals in a span of 2:06 in the third period to break open a tie game and surge past Roseville 5-2 at the TCO Sports Garden.

With the score tied at 2-2 in the third period, White Bear Lake's Aiden Welch scored with 3:51 remaing to put the Bears (11-7-0) ahead 3-2. 

Grady Gallatin scored 69 seconds later and Welch completed the flurry with a goal with 1:45 remaining.

Charlie Krey and James Bartel scored second-period goals as Roseville (7-9-1) erased a 2-0 deficit.

St. Cloud 2, River Lakes 1

ST. CLOUD - Junior forward Ben Elynck scored both St. Cloud goals, the second coming 3:06 into the second period, in a 2-1 triumph over River Lakes at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

After a scoreless first period, River Lakes' Chase Schulzetenberg opened the scoring 10:21 into the second. Eiynck notched his first goal with 15 seconds left in the second.

Carson Cronquist stopped 28 of 30 shots for River Lakes (9-10-0). Ben Condon made 14 saves for St. Cloud (4-11-3).

Moose Lake 4, WSFLG (Wis.) 3

SIREN, Wis. - Gavin Mlaskoch's first-period hat trick propelled Moose Lake to a 4-3 victory over WSFLG at Lodge Center Arena.

Mlaskoch, a junior forward, scored the first two goals for the Rebels (2-15-0) and, after an Everett Gamst goal, scored his third with 11 seconds left in the opening period to make the score 4-0.

WSFLG - a co-operative of west-central Wisconsin schools in Webster, Siren, Frederic, Luck and Grantsburg - rallied with a goal in the second and two more in the third to make for a tense finish.

Moose Lake goaltender Henry Dammer made 44 saves. WSFLG's Tyler Tritlewitz had 21 stops.
