Hockey Night: Berg's hat trick boosts Alexandria past Little Falls

Jan. 31: Duluth Denfeld shuts out Greenway; Red Lake Falls notches 13th win; Forest Lake's Middendorf extends scoring streak

Alexandria 5, Little Falls 1

ALEXANDRIA - Brycen Berg's hat trick lifted No. 11-1A Alexandria to a 5-1 win over No. 4-1A Little Falls (18-3-0) on Monday at the Runestone Community Center.

Berg got the Cardinals (11-6-1) on the scoreboard 3:14 into the contest. Josiah Gronholz pushed lead to 2-0 four minutes later.

Nicholas Peterson gave the Cardinals a 3-0 lead before Little Falls' Carter Oothoudt scored with four seconds left in the second.

Berg answered with a goal 26 seconds into the third and completed the hat trick by scoring with 23 seconds remaining.

Teegan Pfeffer stopped 35 shots for the win.

Duluth Denfeld 4, Greenway 0

COLERAINE - Cooper McClure scored two goals as No. 7-1A Duluth Denfeld recorded a 4-0 win over Greenway (8-8-0) at Hodgins-Berardo Arena.

McClure gave the Hunters (14-7-0) a 1-0 lead and teammate Andy Larson scored with 1:55 left in the first.

Connor McClure scored with 6:15 to play for a 3-0 lead and then Cooper McClure scored with 5:16 remaining.

Connor McClure added two assists to go with his goal while Kaden Postal recorded three assists.

Austin Wick stopped 20 shots for the shutout.

Minneapolis 6, Hutchinson 0

MINNEAPOLIS - John Bebler scored two goals as No. 5-1A Minneapolis scored early and often in its 6-0 win over Hutchinson (10-11-0) at Ridder Arena.

Will Pankratz and Andrew Lybeck scored in the first period as Minneapolis (12-4-1) won for the fifth time in six games.

Bebler scored his goals in the second period to go with a goal by Joel Hanson as Minneapolis built a 5-0 lead.

Drew Pitts completed the scoring midway through the third.

Alex Lamont and Griffin Riley combined for the shutout.

Minnetonka 4, Duluth East 0

DULUTH - John Stout scored twice as No. 18-2A Minnetonka handed Duluth East (4-12-1) a 4-0 loss at the Heritage Sports Center.

Javon Moore gave the Skippers (11-8-1) a 1-0 lead with a first-period goal. Stout pushed the lead to 2-0 by scoring with 4:14 to play in the second.

Stout's second goal came midway through the third. Nick Baer completed the scoring with 5:13 to play.

Forest Lake 4, Cloquet/Esko/Carlton 3

FOREST LAKE - Gavin Middendorf continued his scoring outburst to lead Forest Lake to a 4-3 win over Cloquet/Esko/Carlton at the Forest Lake Sports Center.

Middendorf, who scored twice to lead the Rangers (7-11-1) past the Lumberjacks (6-12-2), has scored 14 goals in his last four games.

Middendorf and Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's Jace Stewart traded goals in the first period.

Wyatt Saltness and Middendorf scored to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead before the Lumberjacks' Lucas Rauner cut the lead to one, 3-2, four seconds after Middendorf's goal.

Jordan Nelson opened the third period with goal to give Forest Lake a 4-2 lead. Cloquet-Esko-Carlton's Patrick Dunaiski scored on the power play with 21 seconds remaining for the final score.

Red Lake Falls 5, Park Rapids 0

PARK RAPIDS - Evan Girdler had two goals and an assist as Red Lake Falls improved to 13-6-0 with the 5-0 win over Park Rapids (8-11-1) at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena. Girdler has scored two or more goals four times in his last five games.

Blane Schmitz and Blake Breiland opened the scoring for the Eagles before Girdler netted his first of the night with 17 seconds left in the first.

Ty Kennett gave Red Lake Falls a 4-0 lead before Girdler's power-play goal closed the scoring.

Ashtin Fredrickson made 16 saves for his first shutout of the season.
