Hockey Night: Monticello halts Cambridge-Isanti's streak

Jan. 20: Bluejackets' goaltender Jaxon Sibell suffers first career loss; Gentry Academy beats Lakeville North in OT; Edina tops Minnetonka

Monticello 3, Cambridge-Isanti 2

MONTICELLO - Gavin Simon scored with 1:58 to play to lift Monticello to a 3-2 upset win over No. 13-1A Cambridge-Isanti at the Moose Sherritt Ice Arena.

The Moose snapped the Bluejackets' 12-game win streak dealt freshman goaltender Jaxon Sibell his first varsity loss in his 12th start.

Monticello (6-11-0) got first-period goals by Wilson Dahlheimer and Quintin Brooks to take a 2-0 lead.

Cambridge-Isanti (12-3-0) got on the board in the second period when Finn Overby scored the first of his two goals with 10:51 remaining.

Overby then tied the game for the Bluejackets with 3:17 left to set the stage for Simon's game-winning goal.

Edina 5, Minnetonka 2

MINNETONKA - No. 7-2A Edina scored the game's first two and final two goals as it recorded a 5-2 win over No. 15-2A Minnetonka at the Pagel Activity Center.

Edina (11-5-0) got first-period goals from Willy Johnson and Jackson Nevers. Minnetonka (8-6-1) tied the game midway through the second when John Stout and Javon Moore recorded power-play goals 72 seconds apart.

Edina's Jimmy Clark added a power-play goal of his own with 4:44 left in the second to give the Hornets the lead.

John Halverson scored Edina's fourth goal.

Gentry Academy 2, Lakeville North 1 (OT)

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Wes Berg scored on a breakaway with 48 seconds remaining in overtime to give Gentry Academy a 2-1 win over No. 16-2A Lakeville North at the TCO Sports Garden, halting the Panthers' 10-game win streak.

Lakeville North (11-3-0) opened the scoring in the second period with a power-play goal by Kyle Doll at 11:57. Gentry Academy (12-3-0) when Berg scored with 5:55 to play in the second.

Anthony Zolezzi stopped 25 shots for the Stars while Finn Jacques made 28 saves for the Panthers.

Centennial 2, Elk River/Zimmerman 2 (OT)

ELK RIVER - Centennial's Brock Carls scored with 9:50 left in the third period as the No. 11-2A Cougars (11-2-1) skated to a 2-2 tie with Elk River/Zimmerman (10-6-1) at the Elk River Ice Arena.

Andrew Foss scored the first of his two goals for the Elks with 3:10 left in the first period.

Centennial's Owen Van Tassel scored on the power play to tie it before Foss added a power-play goal of his own with 1:21 left in the second period to give the Elks a 2-1 lead after two periods.

The Elks' Sam Stockman made 40 saves while Centennial's Jack Fuller stopped 27 shots.

Fergus Falls 4, Sartell-St. Stephen 3 (OT)

FERGUS FALLS - Carter Thielke scored 2:54 into overtime to cap No. 10-1A Fergus Falls' 4-3 comeback win over Sartell-St. Stephen at the Fergus Falls Arena.

Fergus Falls (11-5-0) trailed 3-0 after two periods before starting its comeback when Cole Zierden scored a power-play goal with 11 minutes remaining.

The Otters' Isaac Johnson scored with 7:26 to play before Michael DeBrito tied the game with 1:17 left in regulation.

Sartell-St. Stephen (8-7-0) took a 1-0 lead when Parker Comstock scored in the first. Tory Lund then pushed the lead to 3-0 with even-strength and short-handed goals in the second.

In addition to his goal, Johnson added three assists for the Otters.

Crookston 5, Bagley/Fosston 4

CROOKSTON - Carter Trudeau scored 30 seconds into overtime to give Crookston a 5-4 win over Bagley/Fosston at the Crookston Sports Center. Both teams traded runs of four straight goals.

Crookston (2-11-1) opened the scoring with a goal by Jack Doda before Bagley/Fosston (8-8-1) scored four-straight goals.

Markus Olson and Logan Merschman scored in the first period for the Flyers while Brecken Levin and Merschman added goals in the second.

Doda started the Pirates' comeback with a power-play goal with 2:25 left in the second.

Alexander Longoria scored before Ty Larson tied the game at 4-4 with a power-play goal with 9:51 to play in regulation.

The teams were whistled for a combined 19 penalties.

St. Cloud 1, Brainerd 1 (OT)

BRAINERD - Jed Klang stopped 38 of 39 shots and Cayden Kleffman scored with 1:31 left in regulation as Brainerd forged a 1-1 overtime tie with St. Cloud. 

Andrew Cumming scored in the first period for St. Cloud (3-10-3), which outshot the Warriors (2-12-1) 39-14.

New Ulm 5, New Prague 3

NEW ULM - Dawson Sellner stopped 29 of 32 shots and ive players scored for New Ulm as it cruised past New Prague 5-3 at the New Ulm Civic Center.

Sophomore Austin Uecker had a goal and an assist for the Eagles, giving him 28 points this season, second most on the team.
