Senior Adam Marshall scored the first three goals for his second career hat trick and sophomore goaltender Mason McElroy stopped 25 of 26 shots for his eighth consecutive win as No. 5-2A Benilde-St. Margaret's cruised to a 7-1 victory over No. 13-2A St. Thomas Academy Tuesday at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
Marshall, who figures to be a leading candidate for the Mr. Hockey award that goes to the state's top senior skater, scored the lone goal of the first period and added two more by the midpoint of the second as the Red Knights (10-4-0) built a 3-0 lead over the Tommies (10-7-0).
The goals give Marshall a team-best 11 this season.
McElroy, who helped Wayzata win the state Bantam AA championship last spring, improved to 9-3-0. He just missed getting his third shutout of the season, as Luke Candon scored for St. Thomas Academy with 3:56 remaining.
