Hockey Night: Blake halts Providence Academy's streak

Jan 13: Bears hand Lions their first loss in 10 games; Minneapolis tops Orono 1-0 in OT; Mayo beats Mankato East in Big 9 clash

Blake 6, Providence Academy 1

PLYMOUTH - David Carlson and Jake Svenddal each scored two goals as Blake (8-6-0) handed No. 8-1A Providence Academy (12-3-0) a 6-1 loss at the Plymouth Ice Center on Thursday, snapping the Lions' 10-game win streak dating to Dec. 14.

Carlson opened the scoring with a goal with 12:46 to play in the first period and Nate Heithoff added another goal at 11:01 to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Svenddal scored 48 seconds into the second period before Providence Academy's John Reller scored on the power play. Svenndal then recorded his second goal with 9:39 left in the period to give the Bears a 4-1 lead.

Carlson scored with 8:32 remaining to push the Blake lead to 5-1. Roman Heithoff completed the scoring with a goal with 3:55 left to play.

TC Doran stopped 28 shots for Blake.

Lakeville North 6, Eastview 3

APPLE VALLEY - Chase Camilli and Luke Jech each scored two goals Lakeville North improved to 9-2-0 with a 6-3 win over Eastview (9-4-0) in South Suburban Conference play at the Apple Valley Sports Arena.

The win was the No 16-2A Panthers' eighth straight.

Camilli gave Lakeville North a 1-0 lead in the second period as the Panthers scored three times in the session. Wyatt Albrecht scored before Jech's first goal came with 32 seconds left.

The Panthers' Spencer Braasch scored 45 seconds into the third for a 4-0 lead. Eastview scored three of the next four goals to make it 5-3 when Tanner Kronberg scored with 2:41 left. Camilli closed the scoring with an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining.

Grand Rapids 8, Duluth Denfeld 1

DULUTH - Hayden DeMars and Joey DelGreco each scored two goals as Grand Rapids (12-3-0) won its seventh-straight game, defeating No. 5-1A Duluth Denfeld (11-4-0) 8-1 at the Heritage Sports Center.

DelGreco got the No. 10-2A Thunderhawks on the board with a goal at 6:13 in the first. Grand Rapids scored the second period's first three goals as Ren Morque, DeMars and Hayden Nelson found the back of the net.

Following Denfeld's Connor McClure's goal, DeMars netted his second with 3:35 to play in the second.

DelGreco opened the scoring in the third before Travis Verbick and Justin Kerr added goals for the Thunderhawks.

Minneapolis 1, Orono 0 (OT)

ORONO - Sophomore Hank Davis scored with three minutes left in overtime to give Minneapolis (10-3-1) a 1-0 win over Orono (6-8-1) at the Orono Ice Arena.

The goal was Davis' second of the season. 

Orono's Brock Payton made 49 saves as No. 7-1A Minneapolis outshot No. 14-1A Orono, 50-21.

Rochester Mayo 5, Mankato East 2

ROCHESTER - Junior forward Mason Leimbek's hat trick lifted Rochester Mayo (8-2-3) to a 5-2 win over Mankato East/Loyola (10-5-0) at Graham Arena in a matchup of Big 9 Conference leaders.

Leimbek's first goal tied the game 2-2 with 6:37 to play in the first. His second goal gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead with 3:05 remaining in the second period and this third goal, a power-play tally, came 3:36 into the third to make it 4-2.

The first period saw the teams trade goals. Mayo struck first with Cohen Ruskell's power-play goal with 11:29 to play. Christian Theuninck tied the score with a goal at 10:09 and then gave No. 16-1A Mankato East/Loyola a 2-1 lead with a goal at 7:15.

Ruskell completed the scoring with an empty-net goal with nine seconds remaining.

Mora/Milaca 6, Becker/Big Lake 5 (OT)

MORA - Senior forward Parker Mitchell's goal with five seconds remaining in overtime gave Mora/Milaca (9-4-2)  a 6-5 win over Becker/Big Lake at the Mora Civic Center.

The goal was Mitchell's fourth of the night and state-leading 32nd of the season.

The win is the third straight for the Mustangs and their seventh in eight games.

Brayden Graning had three goals and an assist for Becker/Big Lake (2-11-0).

Graning scored with 1:23 remaining in regulation to cut the Mora/Milaca lead to one at 5-4. The Eagles' Erik Baker then scored with three seconds left to force overtime.

Jack Kritzeck finished with a goal and three assists for the Mustangs.

Park of Cottage Grove 7, Forest Lake 5

FOREST LAKE - Park of Cottage Grove erupted for four goals, including the game's last three, in the third period as the Wolfpack (7-4-0) defeated Forest Lake (5-7-1) 7-5 at the Forest Lake Sports Center.

Two goals by the Wolfpack's Brady Strand helped tie the game at 3-3 after two periods.

Forest Lake's Matthew Linder scored his second goal to give the Rangers a 5-4 lead with 12 minutes remaining to set the stage for Park's scoring outburst.

Mac Wohnoutka tied the game with 6:13 remaining. Noah Janski gave the Wolfpack the lead by scoring with 5:37 left. Jackson Rudh completed the scoring with 37 seconds remaining.

Rudh ranks second in the state among freshman scoring leaders with 23 points, three behind Red Lake Falls' Brock Seeger and one ahead of Forest Lake's Malachi McKinnon, who had a goal and two assists. 

Strand and Janski each scored twice for the Wolfpack, who have won four straight.
