Hockey Night: Holy Angels snaps Gentry Academy's streak

Jan. 12: Jack McDonough's OT goal boosts Holy Angels; Finn Overby's hat trick powers Cambridge-Isanti

Holy Angels 5, Gentry Academy 4 (OT)

VADNAIS HEIGHTS - Junior Jack McDonough's backhand shot 76 seconds into overtime lifted Holy Angels to a 5-4 victory over No. 19-2A Gentry Academy on Wednesday night at TCO Sports Garden, snapping Gentry's 29-game winning streak against Minnesota teams.

Gentry Academy led 4-1 in the third period after Barrett Hall scored 4:03 into the session. 

Lucas Larson started the comeback for Holy Angels (12-1-1) with a goal 5:31 into the third. Nik Johnson scored twice, with his final goal coming with 3:17 remain tie it at 4-4.

McDonough's goal, which came off a face-off in the Gentry Academy end, was his first of the season.

Hall scored two goals and Brendon Hammer and Ethan Josi each had one for Gentry Academy (10-3-1), which went unbeaten last season en route to the state Class 1A championship. Gentry has opted to move up to Class 2A for this season's playoffs.

Holy Angels outshot Gentry Academy 43-20 in the all Stars showdown (both teams are nicknamed the Stars).

The teams complete their home-and-home series on with a 2 p.m. start on Saturday at Richfield Ice Arena, Holy Angels' home rink.

Cambridge-Isanti 3, Northern Edge 2

EAST BETHEL - Junior forward Finn Overby scored all three goals and freshman goaltender Jaxon Sibell made 20 saves to remain unbeaten in his varsity career as No. 12-1A Cambridge-Isanti secured a 3-2 victory over Northern Edge.

Overby, a junior forward, scored a goal in each period for the Blujackets (11-2-0), who extended their winning streak to 11 games.

Trevor Ripley and Alex Langevin scored for Northern Edge (4-8-1).

Sibell improved to 10-0-0 in his varsity career. He ranks third in the state in both save percentage (.939) and goals-against average (1.59).
