Jan. 7: Flyers cruise past Hutchinson, Warriors overwhelm Fergus Falls

LITTLE FALLS - LIttle Falls' Matt Filippi scored four goals Friday night as No. 4-1A Little Falls improved to 13-0-0 with a 6-3 win over Hutchinson (6-6-0) at the Exchange Arena.

Filippi, who leads the state with 28 goals and 54 points, scored three power-play goals in the Flyers' win.

Hutchinson's KK Starrett gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with 3:16 left in the first. Filippi tied the game with his first power-play goal 5:03 into the second. The Flyers and Tigers traded goals before Filippi scored his second power-play goal with 5:58 left in the second. George Moore then added a power-play goal with 2:50 left for a 4-2 Little Falls lead.

Filippi opened the third period with an even-strength goal before recorded his third power-play goal with 11:42 remaining. Starrett added a power-play goal of his own to complete the scoring with 60 seconds to play.

Warroad 9, Fergus Falls 0

FERGUS FALLS - Daimon Gardner gave No. 2-1A Warroad a 1-0 lead 19 seconds into the game and the Warriors improved to 13-0-0 with a 9-0 win over No. 12-1A Fergus Falls (9-5-0) at the Fergus Falls Community Center.

Gardner finished the night with a hat trick and an assist. Jason Shaugaby recorded a goal and four assists. Matt Hard added a goal and two assists.

Hampton Slukynsky made 23 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and fifth in six games.

Gentry Academy 2, Grand Forks Red River (N.D.) 1

GRAND FORKS - Wes Berg scored twice in the second period as No. 20-2A Gentry Academy beat Grand Forks Red River, the state's No. 1 team in the latest coaches' poll, 2-1 at Eagles Arena.

Berg scored 65 seconds into the second then added a power play goal 5:45 later as the Stars (9-2-0) surged in front.

Jake Grandstrand scored for Red River (9-2-0) with 6:34 left in the third period. 

Gentry Academy's Anthony Zolezzi made 26 saves. The Stars outshot Red River 32-27.

Blake 6, Bemidji 1

BEMIDJI - Nate Heithoff recorded a hat trick as Blake (6-5-0) erupted for four third-periods goals and recorded a 6-1 win over Bemidji at the Bemidji Community Arena.

Heithoff got the Bears on the board with 10:28 left in the second period before Carter Krenke made it 2-0 with 3:28 remaining in the period.

Heithoff scored the first of two third-period goals 20 seconds into the final period. Keaton Rannow scored 32 seconds later for a 4-0 lead before Heithoff completed his hat trick and Krenke netted his second with 32 seconds left.

Bemidji falls to 5-6-1.

Rochester Mayo 1, Hibbing/Chisholm 0

ROCHESTER - Will Sexton scored with 6:56 remaining to give Rochester Mayo (7-2-2) a 1-0 win over Hibbing/Chisholm (4-7-0) at the Rochester Recreation Center.

Mayo's Tate Cothern made 18 saves for the shutout win while Brayden Boyer stopped 23 of 24 shots for Hibbing/Chisholm.

Rock Ridge 3, Bloomington Kennedy 0

BLOOMINGTON - Rock Ridge scored three third-period goals to give the Wolverines a 3-0 win over Bloomington Kennedy (2-7-1) at the Blooming Ice Gardens.

The Wolverines (5-6-0) got goals from Kasey Lamppa, Rory Cope-Robinson and Ryan Manninen. Manninen and Lamppa were also credited with assists.
