Senior defenseman Ben Thompson scored his first goal of the season, sophomore forward Brendan McMorrow scored the first goal of his varsity career and sophomore goaltender Mason McElroy made 22 saves Thursday as No. 9-2A Benilde-St. Margaret’s beat Stillwater 2-1 to complete its three-game sweep of the Tradition in the Park tournament at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.
Riley Skuka opened the scoring for Stilwater (6-3-0) 6:43 into the first period. Thompson scored with 49 seconds left in the second period on a blast from the right point.
McMorrow’s rebound goal came with 6:15 to play, lifting the Red Knights (7-4-0) to their third one-goal victory in as many days.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s opened tourney play Tuesday with a 5-4 overtime win over Rogers and topped Maple Grove 3-2 Wednesday on a goal with less than a second remaining by senior defenseman Tristan Sarsland.
The Red Knights outshot Stillwater 45-23 Thursday. Tomas Anderson made 43 saves for the Ponies.
