EDINA - Edina fired 47 shots at Elk River/Zimmerman sophomore goaltender Sam Stockman, but Hornets senior Willy Johnson's second-period goal was all that got past the Elks' superb sophomore Friday night in a second-round game of the Edina Holiday Classic at Braemar Arena.
Stockman's unflappable play gave No. 20-2A Elk River/Zimmerman (5-3-0) a realistic chance to beat No. 1-2A Edina (6-0-0), or at least muster a tie.
The Elks had several quality chances in the closing minutes as they went on the power play and pulled Stockman in favor of an extra skater, but the Hornets blocked a series of shots and deflected a handful of others out of play.
