WARROAD - It took until overtime but unbeaten Warroad earned a 4-3 win over Grand Rapids on Saturday at The Gardens Arena as Murray Marvin-Cordes scored with 3:26 to play in the extra session to lift the No. 3-1A Warriors (5-0-0) to the win.
The 4-3 overtime loss for No. 11-2A Grand Rapids (5-2-0) was its second in as many games. Roseau beat the Thunderhawks by the same score on Friday night.
Jayson Shaugabay gave the Warriors a 3-0 lead but Grand Rapids rallied to send the game into overtime.
BUFFALO - Max Varner made 33 saves for Buffalo as the unranked Bison shocked No. 9-2A Moorhead 2-1 in a matchup of Section 8AA foes at the Buffalo Civic Center.
Turner Marr scored in the first period and Gavin Valli added a goal early in the second as Buffalo (2-3-0) took a 2-0 lead. Aaron Reierson countered for Moorhead (3-4-0).
STILLWATER - Junior forward Charlie Drage scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season and senior goaltender Ben Dardis turned aside 37 of 39 shots to lead No. 2-1A Mahtomedi past No. 16-2A St. Thomas Academy 3-2 at the St. Croix Valley Recreation Center.
Tyler Grahme scored with just more than a minute remaining in the final period for St. Thomas Academy (1-3-1), but the Zephyrs (4-2-0) hung on for the win behind the stellar play of Dardis.
MAPLE GROVE - Landen Gunderson scored with 27 seconds remaining as No. 5-2A Maple Grove beat No. 19-2A Centennial 3-2.
Blake Steenerson and Jack Kernan also scored for the Crimson (4-1-1), who outshot the Cougars 40-25.
Peyton Blair scored both goals for Centennial (3-1-1), and Cougars goaltender Jack Fuller made 37 saves.
ELY - Kole Macho and Logan Loe each scored twice and Chase Sandberg recorded a 31-save shutout as Ely cruised past Moose Lake 6-0 at Ely Ice Arena.
The victory was the first of the season for the Timberwolves (1-3-0). Moose Lake dropped to 0-7-0.
HERMANTOWN - Sophomore Dallas Vieau scored twice and added an assist as No. 1-1A Hermantown beat Rosemount 6-3 at the Hermantown Ice Arena, the Hawks fourth victory over a Class 2A school in as many games to start the season.
Rosemount (1-1-0) never trailed by more than a goal until the third period, when the Hawks (4-0-0) got back-to-back goals from Vieau and Beau Janzig to pull away.
VADNAIS HEIGHTS - One night after losing to the Wisconsin's No. 3-ranked team No. 13-2A Gentry Academy beat Hudson, the state's No. 1 squad in its top division, 7-4 behind three-point performances from Nathan Rickey and Barrett Hall at TCO Sports Garden.
Gentry Academy (3-1-0), the undefeated state Class 1A champion last season, lost 6-4 to Notre Dame, No. 3 in Wisconsin's Division 1 according to Wisconsin Prep Hockey, on Friday night.
Saturday's loss was the first of the season for Hudson (5-1-0), Wisconsin's defending state Division 1 champion.
