Hockey Night: Benilde-St. Margaret's rallies in third to topple Hill-Murray

Nov. 30: Cretin-Derham Hall and Fergus Falls win, Northern Edge makes debut

Benilde-St. Margaret's 5, Hill-Murray 3

MAPLEWOOD - Benilde-St. Margaret's scored twice in the final 53 seconds to record a 5-3 win over Hill-Murray Tuesday night at Aldrich Arena in a matchup between two teams ranked in Class 2A's top five.

Michael Risteau gave No. 5 Benilde-St. Margaret's a 4-3 lead when he scored with 53 seconds remaining. Drew Stewart iced the win with his second goal of the contest with 37 seconds left.

Benilde-St. Margaret's took a 2-0 lead in the first period when Stewart and Ben Norris scored. No. 4 Hill-Murray started its comeback with a goal by Marcus Kaufman, but the Red Knights answered when Brady Yakesh scored with seven seconds left in the second period for a 3-1 edge.

The Pioneers got within one, at 3-2, when Leo Gruba netted a power-play goal and the Pioneers' Ben Karr then tied the game at 9:13.

Stewart was credited with an assist to go with his two goals while Yakesh added two assists.

Cretin-Derham Hall 3, Mahtomedi 1

ST. PAUL - Class 2A No. 1 Cretin-Derham Hall rebounded from its season-opening loss with a 3-1 win over Mahtomedi at Highland Arena.

The Raiders, who suffered a 4-3 loss to St. Thomas Academy Saturday, overcame eight penalties to record Tuesday's win.

Drew Fisher got the Raiders on the board 5:32 into the first period. Luke McCarthy and Kevin Odlaug added second-period goals to give Cretin-Derham Hall a 3-0 lead.

David Wolsfelt scored on a third-period power play for Mahtomedi, which only scored once on seven power-play chances.

Mahtomedi goalkeeper Ben Dardis made 53 saves.

Fergus Falls 4, Northern Lakes 1

FERGUS FALLS - Class 1A No. 6 Fergus Falls used three third-period goals to record a 4-1 win over  Class 1A No. 7 Northern Lakes at the Fergus Falls Community Arena.

The Otters got goals from Michal DeBrito, Carter Thielke and Cole Zierden to pull away for the win.

After Northern Lakes' Jamison St. Clair scored in the second period, the Otters' Isaac Johnson evened the score with 11 seconds left, setting up the third-period scoring outburst.

Johnson added two assists to go with his goal.

Northern Edge 3, Mora/Milaca 3

EAST BETHEL - Northern Edge made its debut and skated to a 3-3 tie with Mora/Milaca at the East Bethel Ice Arena.

Northern Edge, which was formed by the St. Francis and North Branch programs forming the co-operative, built a 3-1 lead in the third period before Parker Mitchell netted back-to-back goals for Mora/Milaca to force overtime.

Mitchell also got Mora/Milaca on the board before Tyler Iacono scored Northern Edge's first-ever goal.
