On a night that featured four overtime games, Edina and Little Falls came away with wins. Here's a quick look at some of the games featuring ranked teams and others that included notable performances.
PLYMOUTH - A.J. Doll scored 62 seconds into overtime to complete his hat trick and lift No. 10 Edina to a 6-5 overtime win over No. 2 Maple Grove in the Wayzata Turkey Trot at the Plymouth Ice Center.
The Hornets rallied for the victory after trailing 5-2 with 5:20 remaining.
Doll sent the game into overtime with a goal with 17 seconds left. That goal came after Hornets climbed within one, 5-4, at 1:04 on Willy Johnson's goal.
Jimmy Clark started the third-period three-goal outburst with a goal with four minutes to play. Clark finished with two goals and an assist for the Hornets. Trey Fechko was credited with three helpers.
The second period was all Maple Grove as the Crimson scored five goals, highlighted by four-straight tallies.
Finn Brink netted back-to-back power-play goals to make it 5-2 with 3:57 left. Jack Kernan got Maple Grove on the board two minutes into the period and then gave the Crimson a 3-2 lead.
PLYMOUTH - No. 12 Wayzata closed with four-straight goals as the Trojans downed No. 8 Moorhead 5-2 the Wayzata Turkey Trot at the Plymouth Ice Center.
After Wayzata's Justin Lesser tied the game with 3:12 remaining in the second period, Brittan Alstead gave the Trojans their first lead two minutes later.
The Trojans pushed their lead to 4-2 when Drew Streeter scored with 2:53 remaining. Luke Miller completed the scoring with an empty-net goal.
Wayzata goalkeeper Will Ingemann stopped 29 of 31 shots for the win.
ST. PAUL - Little Falls’ Matt Filippi scored seven seconds in overtime to give the No. 13 Flyers a 6-5 win over No. 18 Orono in the Two Rivers Thanksgiving Tournament at the TRIA Rink. The goal was Filippi's third of the night.
The Flyers held a 4-2 lead after two periods but saw Orono’s Easton Sankey tie the game 4-4 with back-to-back goals. Sankey, who scored in the first period, not only recorded his first varsity goal but also his first varsity hat trick.
Carter Oothoudt also scored two goals in the second period to help the Flyers build the 4-2 lead.
Orono’s Connor Lang gave the Spartans a 5-4 lead before Oothoudt scored with 1:44 left to send the game into overtime.
BLOOMINGTON - Sam Sheetz made his first varsity goal a big one as No. 15 Chaska defeated No. 13 St. Thomas Academy 4-3 at The Opener at the Bloomington Ice Garden. Sheetz scored on the power play with 5:55 left to record the game-winner.
Also scoring his first varsity goal was Sam Spehar, son of legendary Duluth East player Dave Spehar, as he netted a power-play tally in the first period.
Sheetz's goal gave Chaska coach Matt Cooke, who played more than 1,000 NHL games, a victory in his Hawks' debut.
HALLOCK - Junior Tyler Hennen scored four goals, including three in the final 7:32, and added an assist as host Kittson Central rallied past Ely 6-4.
Ely pulled ahead 4-3 in the third on a Deegan Richards goal before Hennen, who scored 31 goals in 17 games last season, rallied the Bearcats to the victory.
Richards scored twice and had two assists for the Timberwolves.
