Andover vs. Centennial

2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 22
Centennial Sports Arena, Circle Pines

Centennial has allowed just 23 goals this season, fourth-fewest in the state. The Cougars have scored 95 goals, third most in the state.

Score a lot, allow a precious few goals - seems like a winning formula. Sure enough, No. 11-2A Centennial (11-2-0) owns one of the state's best records.

The only knock on the Cougars - their mildly challenging schedule to date - isn't much of a knock at all considering the quality of their opponents ramps up significantly in the final third of the season.

No opponent figures to be more challenging than No. 1-2A Andover (13-2-1). The Huskies have standouts all over the ice, starting in goal with Austin Brauns, a senior who ranks third in the state with a 1.55 goals-against average. Senior defenseman Kyle Law has seven goals among his 16 points. And the forward duo of juniors Cayden Casey and Gavyn Thoreson has combined for 73 points.

Centennial senior goaltender Jack Fuller also sits in the state's top 10 in goals-against average (1.71). Scoring leader Owen Van Tassel, a senior forward, scored five of his 17 goals in a single game (a 17-2 win over Spring Lake Park on Jan. 13).
