MAPLE GROVE VS. ROGERS

3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15
Rogers Ice Arena, Rogers

Benilde-St. Margaret’s played both Rogers and Maple Grove in a two-day span during a post-Christmas holiday tournament. Red Knights coach Ken Pauly came away impressed with both teams and how they attack, although in different ways.

“Rogers just kind of hangs around and hangs around, kind of sneaky, then it hits you like a cobra,” Pauly said. “And with Maple Grove it's like fire wagon hockey, up and down the ice.”

Saturday’s matchup between Northwest Suburban Conference rivals No. 8-2A Maple Grove (8-4-1) and No. 17-2A Rogers (8-5-1) could certainly be a high-scoring affair. Rogers has scored four or more goals in each of its last three outings while Maple Grove has scored a combined 20 goals in its last three games.

Maple Grove has been alternating wins with losses dating to a Dec. 14 victory over Spring Lake Park. Junior Landen Gunderson is the Crimson’s leader in goals (10) and points (15).

Senior Hogan Sinjem (13 goals) and junior Sam Ranollo (25 points) lead Rogers’ quick-strike attack.
