EASTVIEW vs. ROSEMOUNT

3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8
Rosemount Ice Arena, Rosemount

Call this one the battle of the Giant Slayers.

Eastview, coming off a 5-14-0 season a year ago, announced itself as a team to be reckoned with on Dec. 2 when it stunned St. Thomas Academy 2-1.

A fluke? Nah. The Lightning dispatched of Prior Lake, one of the preseason favorites to win the South Suburban Conference, 4-1 on Dec. 14 and have a 6-2-0 record heading into Saturday’s afternoon matchup against Rosemount.

The No. 18-2A Irish (5-4-0) also have defeated Prior Lake this season, but their big giant-slaying moment came on Dec. 30 when they outlasted current No. 1-2A Andover 3-2 in a holiday tournament finale at the Bloomington Ice Garden.

Senior Jake Peterson, one of several standout Irish defensemen, scored what proved to be the winner against Andover. He has six goals among his 10 points and leads the team in scoring. Sophomore Hans Hedlund also scored against the Huskies and shares the team goal-scoring lead with Peterson.

Junior forward John Kisch leads Eastview with 10 points.
