Both teams played in highly competitive tournaments last weekend, concluding the Friday-Saturday games with opposite results in the win-loss column.
No. 3-2A Andover beat Cloquet/Esko/Carlton and Roseau, showcasing uber-talented forwards Gavyn Thoreson (5 points) and Cayden Casey (4 points), both juniors, and an elite defensive corps led by seniors Weston Knox and Kyle Law.
No. 8-2A Moorhead lost to Wayzata and Maple Grove by identical 5-2 scores at the Wayzata Turkey Trot, but don’t fret about the Spuds. Their roster is loaded with elite-level players, including tough-as-teflon junior defenseman Joe Gramer, a Nebraska Omaha commit. The three-time defending Section 8AA champion, Moorhead has talent spilling all the way down to the junior varsity, which won that portion of the Wayzata tourney.
