Pardon the pun, but the sparkling new arena in Virginia will no doubt be rockin’ when Rock Ridge makes its home debut against high-powered Duluth Denfeld. The merger of former rivals and Iron Range neighbors Eveleth-Gilbert and Virginia/Mountain Iron-Buhl, Rock Ridge figures to be a highly competitive squad, although maybe not quite a “superteam” akin to the 1982 merger of Edina East and Edina West. If any team has a chance to knock Hermantown off its perch atop Section 7A, it most likely will be one of these two.
