Both of these teams have state tournament-worthy talent, but offseason section realignment didn’t exactly clear a path to St. Paul. Instead, Section 6A is loaded with several of state’s top small-school teams, including these two. Northern Lakes, coming off its first state tournament appearance, returns standout forwards Tyler Seeling and Colton Craig, both seniors, and one of the state’s top sophomores in defenseman Isaac Peterson. All three were selected to play in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League this fall. Junior Isaac Johnson and senior Michael DeBrito are two of several top returners for Fergus Falls, which lost in overtime to Little Falls in a section championship last season.
