While it might seem like these teams have little in common given their locations, conferences and sections, it’s worth noting that St. Paul Academy was a regular attendee at Border Battle holiday tournaments in La Crescent back in the early 2000s.
And, surprisingly, these teams have a few common opponents. Not that those results help handicap Saturday night’s game in St. Paul. La Crescent defeated Faribault and lost to Dodge County. St. Paul Academy defeated Dodge County and lost to Faribault. Both cruised to lopsided wins over St. Paul Johnson.
Farrell’s 44 goals are second most in the state and leads the Lancers by a whopping 30. He scored five in a 9-0 win over West Salem (Wis.) on Dec. 6 and has seven other games with at least three goals. Alex Armada, Sebastian Hoiland and Nelson Wodarz, all seniors, each have 12 points to lead a balanced offense for St. Paul Academy (8-9-1).
