Wayzata vs. Warroad

7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 20
The Gardens Arena, Warroad

One game won’t determine the winner of the Frank Brimsek Award that goes to the state’s top senior goaltender. Or will it? Warroad’s Hampton Slukynsky and Wayzata’s Will Ingemann, who played together on a U.S. junior team at an international tournament in Alberta this summer, are the two frontrunners for the award.

Both rank in the top 10 in the state in the major goaltending statistical categories and have led their teams to superb seasons. Slukynsky has four shutouts among his 13 wins for the No. 1-1A Warriors (14-0-0), the state’s lone unbeaten team.

Ingemann has has allowed one goal or less in eight games, and his .947 save percentage ranks third in the state to Slukynsky’s .940, good for fourth.

The star power doesn’t stop with the goalies. Warroad senior Jayson Shaugabay has 46 points this season and 254 for his career, putting him at 18th on the state’s all-time career scoring list.
