WAYZATA vs. Minnetonka

2:15 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7
Pagel Activity Center, Minnetonka

A somewhat rare and always well-attended (no matter the teams or venue) No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown in Class 2A is set for Saturday as top-ranked Minnetonka (8-1-0) hosts No. 2 Wayzata.

Wayzata (8-1-1), the last of the state’s unbeaten teams in Class 2A, suffered its first loss of the season last Thursday, 4-3 against No. 3-2A Maple Grove. The usually defensively stingy Trojans have allowed four goals in each of their last two games, a trend not likely to continue with standout Will Ingemann (.934 save percentage) in goal.

Minnetonka (8-1-0) played just one game over the holiday break, a 4-1 triumph over No. 18-2A Grand Rapids. Skippers senior Kaizer Nelson ranks third among the state’s goaltenders with a 1.11 goals-against average.
