ST. THOMAS aCADEMY vs. Cretin-Derham Hall

7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22
Highland Arena, St. Paul

As rivalries go, this one has been more than a bit one-sided lately. And by lately, we mean the last eight years. St. Thomas Academy has won nine-straight meetings with Cretin-Derham Hall dating to the Raiders’ 4-3 win over the Tommies and a star forward named Tommy Novak Jan. 28, 2014, at Highland Arena.

St. Thomas Academy already has a win over Cretin-Derham Hall this season, beating the Raiders 4-2 on Nov. 25. That game opened the season in style for the No. 7-2A Tommies (7-0-0), who also have quality wins over Eastview and Holy Family but have yet to beat a top-10 ranked team.

No. 12-2A Cretin-Derham Hall (5-2-0) has won five straight since an 0-2 start, scoring a combined 28 goals in those victories. Freshmen Max Anderson and Nate Chorlton share the team lead in goals with five. Three other Raiders have four goals. Senior Tommy Cronin has scored 14 of St. Thomas Academy’s 36 goals. Cadets goaltenders Tyler Magozzi and Cody Niesen have posted some of the best statistics in the state.

Which team will win?
Legacy pick: Cretin-Derham Hall
