New Ulm vs. Hutchinson

7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20
Burich Arena, Hutchinson

The confines of the Big South Conference have been cozy indeed for New Ulm, which hasn’t lost to a conference opponent since a 5-2 setback against Luverne on Dec. 28, 2019. That’s a streak of 51 victories — 47 in conference play and four more in the playoffs — against Big South foes.

The Eagles, unbeaten in six games, skate out of their comfort zone on Tuesday when they travel to Hutchinson to face the No. 14-1A Tigers (4-2-0).

Juniors Kadon Larson and Austin Uecker each have 10 goals to lead New Ulm. Eagles goaltender Bryer Hoffmann ranks third in the state with a 1.15 goals-against average.

Sophomore Easton Mallak leads Hutchinson with six goals. Senior Hunter Lien and sophomore Lukas Heilman have been splitting starts and have almost matching statistics — impressive ones at that — with save percentages in the .930 range and an identical goals-against average of 2.00.
