COON RAPIDS vs. Waconia

7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 6
Waconia City Ice Arena, Waconia

Waconia versus Coon Rapids, at first glance at a map of the metro, is a match made in purgatory. After all, it’s 52 miles through the heart of the Twin Cities to get from one far flung suburb to the other. Fourth-year Coon Rapids coach Aaron Frach and second-year Waconia coach Anthony Reynolds are Delano grads trying to build their programs, so it’s worth noting this matchup wasn’t pulled out of thin air. And what a matchup. Waconia (4-0-0) is off to one of the hottest starts in the programs’ 15 year history and has won its last two games (against Breck and Cambridge-Isanti) in overtime. Drew Puchner and Brett Siddons each have three goals to lead the Wildcats. Coon Rapids (2-1-0) has one of its best teams in recent history and is coming off a 16-1 rout of Northern Edge. Tyler Barsness (7 goals) and Eli Boden (6 goals) form a potent 1-2 forward punch.

Which team will win?
Legacy pick: Coon Rapids
